~ON CAMERA~
Fade up on a close-up of a black wheelie bag being dragged through the backstage area. The camera tilts up to reveal Smith Jones dressed in dark jeans and a gray tee that reads keep breathing on the front of it in white lettering. APW Interviewer Troy Butler catches up with the fast-moving Jones and tries to keep pace.
TROY BUTLER: “Smitty, your thoughts on the untimely death of the APW World Champion?!”
Jones arrives at the door of his rental car, which is a white 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible with silver trim. He silently lifts his gimmick bag and tosses it into the back seat before turning to face Troy with a deadpan glare.
SMITH JONES: “Eh?”
TROY BUTLER: “I know that you and Jubei weren’t the best of friends by any stretch of the imagination, but can you, er, would you be willing to comment on his passing?”
Jones stares off at nothing while he ponders. He starts to slowly nod as his eyes slowly come to meet Troy’s
SMITH JONES: “People die.”
TROY BUTLER: “I see...”
Caught off guard by the brevity of Smith’s statement, Butler scrambles to assemble a follow-up.
TROY BUTLER: “So… with the Alpha Pro Title now vacant, who do you expect to face at Supremacy for the championship?”
SMITH JONES: “In all seriousness, Masuda Jubei was one of the best wrestlers on the roster and it SADDENS ME to know that he didn’t have what it takes to see things through here in APW. That said, I had no personal connection to the man and his death means about as much to me as a puppy getting run over on a rural highway, so when you ask about the future of the APW World Heavyweight Wrestling Championship, all I can say is that I got into this game to beat the very best. I already publicly declared that I was ready to fight Masuda Jubei. He is no longer available. The man to beat in this company is none other than the incredible Smith Jones. Come at me.”
TROY BUTLER: “Irina Ivanova just announced a Memorial Match in honour of Masuda Jubei. Any thoughts on who you might be facing later this month at Supremacy?”
SMITH JONES: “Later this month at APW Suprema-- Hang on.”
Smith’s phone chirps and vibrates. He pulls it out of his back pocket.
SMITH JONES: “Hn. Wanna know Masuda’s real cause of death?”
Troy’s eyes widen.
SMITH JONES: “Fear of Smith Jones. It happens.”
With that, Jones hops into his white ‘57 Chevy and peels out. Fade to black.
