The evenings matches had been over for quite a while. Johnny Blaze stood alone in the center of the ring looking around at the now empty seats. Even though his body ached he couldn't help but to smile. He had done it! He was able to pick up his first victory. It definitely wasn't easy. That's for sure. Allen Anderson made him work for it and even earned a little bit of respect from him. Now it would be on to his dad's home town Chicago, Illinois and the APW's pay per view Ascension. He could imagine what kind of crazy match they would have in store for him. Not that it mattered, he was just happy to be a part of things. No matter what he wanted to make a good showing for his fathers home town fans.
He looked around at the ring mat and the blood that stained it. He knew then just what he was fighting for. It was for all of those who gave everything they had for this sport. Those who loved doing what they did. Those, like his father, who stayed long after they should have until they couldn't do it anymore. For those still fighting and trying to make a name for themselves. He was fighting for the sport and all of those who loved watching them do what they do. Most of all, he was fighting for himself. He wanted to win and move up the ladder for another shot at a championship. The next time he would be ready. His father never won a World Championship as a single wrestler. Just tag team titles, a US Championship, Peoples Championship, and Television Championship. He didn't want to end his career the same way. He would do everything in his power to keep that from happening. He just needed to have a little more confidence in his abilities and show that he belongs here in the APW with all of the best!
He turned and was making his way out of the ring when he overheard one of the ring attendants talking trash behind his back.
Ring Attendant
It's about time. Win one match and the guy acts like he won a major championship. What a nimrod!
Johnny turned and walked towards where the guy stood. He towered over him like a giant and glared down at him. The guy was shaking in his boots when Johnny got into his face.
Johnny Blaze
You got something to say you little shrimp? Do you know what I could do to you?
Ring Attendant
You don't scare me. Everyone knows the wrestling shit is fake anyway. You're nothing but an actor playing a role and
That was as far as he got. Johnny hit the guy with a left jab followed by a right hook that knocked him to the ground. Johnny picked up the guy and carried him to the ring. He rolled the guy under the ropes and then climbed to the top. He leapt from the ropes and connected with a splash. Johnny laughed as the attendants legs began shaking uncontrollably. Johnny picked him up and shouted into his face.
Johnny Blaze
How fake is that you bitch!
Johnny picks the guy back up and carries him to the top rope. Johnny is about to hit the guy again and then DDT him when he stopped and pushed the guy off. The poor idiot done went and pissed his pants. Johnny pointed at him and just laughed before jumping down and heading out of the building. It was on to tomorrow and another adventure.
He awoke startled. Not sure of just what woke him up. He grabbed his handgun from the drawer beside the bed and slowly stood up. There was very little light to help him see where in the hell he was going. He stubbed his toe on the corner of the bedpost and cursed out loud. Yeah, he knew how to sneak up on someone alright. He eased his way over to the doorway and turned on the light. There was nothing around. He opened his bedroom door and made his way out into the hallway. Nothing was there either. Frustrated he turned and walked back into the bedroom. He kept his gun close by as he tried to go back to sleep. He was just about to doze off or had he fallen asleep and was dreaming? Either way he was staring straight into the face of his father when he opened his eyes. It seemed like his father was trying to tell him something but he just couldn't make it out.
That was the last thing he remembered before someone yelling his name and shaking him.
Thunder Hornsby
Wake the fuck up already dude, damn. We were supposed to meet Leo a half hour ago. I called him and let him know we were running late. Come on lets get going.
Johnny Blaze
What in the hell are you talking about? Going where?
Thunder Hornsby
We have to meet Leo at the airport and take a private plane to Midway Airport. From there it's a short drive to where Your father is being held at. The compound was just to throw us off. He's being held at an abandoned warehouse along Lake Michigan. There's an old warehouse district with a bunch of abandoned buildings.
Johnny was wide awake then. He grabbed what he would need and the two of them were out the door and headed for the airport. Leo Bell was waiting for them when they got to the airport. He looked at his watch as if to show his unhappiness for them being late.
Leo Bell
You cost me an extra hundred to get the pilot to wait for you. Come on before he makes it another hundred.
The three of them ran across the parking lot and through a private entrance leading to the private planes. There they boarded a twin engine Cessna and were on their way. Midway refused to give them clearance to land so they flew further north to a small private landing strip. Not long after they exited the plane three black stretch limos pulled into the area. A gentleman got out of one of the vehicles and walked over to Leo.
Driver
I'm here to escort you the rest of the way. We'll take the back way to the area just in case. No one has been seen around there in quite a while from the way it looked. Places can always be staged to look that way though. A few of our 'friends' are in the other limos. Come on, lets go.
The three of them got into the limo and it took off. It was about an hour or longer before the limo came to a stop and they heard the driver speak through the intercom.
Driver
Our friends are going to check the perimeter and make sure no one is here to welcome us. When they give the okay we can get out.
A few minutes later they were given the all clear and stepped out of the vehicle. They made their way to the nearest building and went inside. The place was empty and not a trace of anyone being there. The next one or two were the same way. When they entered the fourth building the stench about knocked them backwards. They propped the door open and walked inside. Johnny made his way towards the back where the worst of the smell was coming from. When he stepped into the room and saw what was there he turned and vomited. Chained to a pole inside the room half eaten by the rats was what was left of Night Rider. Johnny knew it the moment he saw it. It was wearing his fathers clothes and was his size. Around it's neck was the gold chain with his wedding ring from Denise. Johnny grabbed the necklace and ran out of the building. Then he began vomiting again, this time it was mixed with his tears.
It looked like he had been taken there and just left to die. After that the critters took care of what was left. Who could have done such a thing? He didn't know but he would find out if it was the last thing he did. Emergency vehicles began arriving at the scene and statements were taken. Time seemed to pass him by as he struggled with his emotions throughout the day. He went through his workouts and tried to pour all of his emotions into each set. He wore his fathers necklace and would wear it in the ring in honor of him. He did find out that he would be involved in a fatal four way tag team match and wouldn't know who his partner would be until the day of the match. He would have to think of everyone involved as the enemy and strategize as such. Just looking at the names of the other competitors made him smile. There was Apex Onyx, Teddy Geisel, Charmaine (the God), “Jazzy” John McCarty, “Unstoppable” Noris Cranley, Leon Dread plus some big surprise competitor who will probably be some ringer they throw in to steal the show. It didn't really matter. Nothing mattered. He was going to go out there and give it all that he had to give. If it was enough cool. If not, fuck it! He knew there were some big names competing and he would have to fight one hell of a battle. Isn't that what he had been doing all of his life? Being the son of the great Night Rider wasn't easy. Everyone wanted to see how tough the kid was and if he was as bad as his dad. Sometimes the fights would be 3 and 4 or more against him. Still he fought because he knew he had to. He would take his lumps and dish out twice as much back. Let them all come for him. They were going to find out that they didn't want a piece of him as bad as they thought they did. They would find out that it's a whole lot easier jumping on him than it is going to be jumping off!

Some of them, like Teddy Geisel. Thinks that rapping and talking a bunch of shit is going to win him a match. Geisel isn't even a good rapper. Just another wanna be who thinks he's the shit. He may smell like it but that's about all. Then there's Noris Cranley who is pissed because he is even in this match. Hell he should just be glad to participate in the pay per view and accept it instead of thinking he should be in the spotlight all the time. Opening matches set the stage for the whole event so fuck Cranley! Johnny knew that he could stand toe to toe with all of the others involved and he didn't care if it was the opening match or the main event. He was still going to kick some ass and do what he does best. Good luck to the rest of the competitors, they were going to need it.
