Welcome to Alpha Pro Wrestling!
If you’re new to e-fedding as a whole, this community in particular, or you simply need a refresher on e-fed specifics, start here.
Q: Ok, so, what’s a PROMO? Is it the same as a ROLEPLAY?
A: Yes. We use the terms PROMO and ROLEPLAY (or RP) interchangeably. This refers to the IN-CHARACTER (IC) written piece you will post in the Promo Board.
Q: How do I write a promo/roleplay?
A: Preferably with words. The important things to remember are scene setting -- which can be minimal, or as detailed as you like, but keep the word cap in mind; story/character development -- which involves revealing information about your character's personal life, inner thoughts, progress as a person, etc. and can be wildly imaginative or thoroughly mundane, according to your preferences as a writer; match relevance -- in essence, how your story pertains to the week's match; and research/shoot -- basically the way you trash-talk your opponents. Research is critical to shoot. If you don't know anything about your opponent, your shoot will be bland and uninteresting. For further information, please follow the link above, or ask other people for help.
Q: May I roleplay as a real wrestler?
A: NO. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES may you rp as a real wrestler from WWE/WCW/ROH/NJPW/AEW or any other promotion.
Q: How about in my promos? Can I interact with real wrestlers?
A: Also NO. DO NOT use real wrestlers in any capacity. You MAY NOT have a real wrestler as any part of your entourage, or in any way interact with trademarked personas. This was allowed at one point, but due to excessive abuse of management's flexibility on the issue, this is no longer permitted.
Q: How many promos may I/should I write each week?
A: You can write as many as you feel like, but bear in mind that unless otherwise specified (eg. for a World Title match) ONLY ONE will be judged -- the promo deemed by our panel of judges to be the best in terms of quality.
Q: How do I use Social Media and/or Beyond the Promo forums?
A: The Social Media forum is for all your IC interactions with other wrestlers/fans via the internet. This can include, but is not limited to: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, a personal blog, or other forms of internet media. Beyond the Promo is for other forms of character development, whether a televised interview or podcast, or just an extra bit of story that doesn’t exactly fit in the parameters of your weekly promo.
Q: Do my posts in Social Media/Beyond the Promo count toward my match?
A: NO. Activity in Social Media/Beyond the Promo is optional and entirely voluntary, and has nothing whatsoever to do with your character’s in-ring performance. Posting in either of these forums gives your character more visibility, however, and may encourage others to want to work a feud or story with you, and will keep you in the public eye.
Q: I wrote a promo and I feel like it was the BEST PROMO EVER WRITTEN ™; why did I lose?
A: There is no easy answer to that, because a lot of factors go into judging. We may not look at things like grammar, sentence structure, or spelling -- but what we DO look for are the quality of the story, context and content, what kind of research you put in, and how solid your shoot was. A lot of the things that make the difference aren’t easy to articulate or describe, but have quite a bit to do with nuance and details and a lot of intangible things.
The thing is, everybody writes their best every week (ideally), and nobody likes losing. Trust us, we don’t like judging against anyone, either. Frequently, matches are very close, and it’s difficult to determine a winner. Losing is not a judgement against your character, your writing, or you. Please don’t take it personally.
Q: Ok, but I feel like I’m losing more than I should. Who do I talk to?
A: Your best bet is to request peer feedback, either in the feedback forum, or one-on-one in a private message. Also, take a look at the characters who win the most, and the characters who have titles. These are typically the highest level writers in the fed. Read their work. Observe what they’re doing, reach out and ask them for advice. Most people in the community are friendly and willing to help out.
DO NOT harass the admin team about losing. There will be consequences.
Q: How does booking work?
A: The booker writes down the names of every available character on a weekly basis and matches them up based on a variety of factors, such as: alignment and relative experience/time in fed. The booker tends to try to avoid making the same people face each other whenever possible, but as the roster is finite, sometimes that’s unavoidable.
Q: How do I know when I’m booked?
A: Cards go up every week, either immediately after results on Monday night, or as early as possible on Tuesday morning. Look in the Monday Night Metal or Pay-Per-View forums.
Q: When do results go up, and how do I read them?
A: Results go up Monday nights, typically by 10pm EST, and are posted in the Results forum.
Q: I feel like I’m being booked in the undercard, when I am clearly a superstar. What’s up with that?
A: Placement on the card has nothing to do with your skill or your character’s standing on the roster. Matches are booked in a specific order to enhance the flow of results.
Q: What’s all this match-writing stuff about, anyway?
A: Match writing is another way to be involved in the production of results, and helps take some of the workload off the admin team. This is entirely voluntary and open to anyone who wants to take a shot at it. ZMAC has a good overview of how to write a match.
Once you’re finished, just send the match to either Irina Ivanova or Alpha Creative.
Q: How do I write/submit a segment?
A: If it’s a solo segment that doesn’t involve any other wrestlers, just write it up and send it to either Irina Ivanova or Alpha Creative. IF your match involves an attack on or interaction with another wrestler clear it with that person first; this avoids potential conflict, and having the other person’s input can improve the segment overall. Then, once the segment is complete, submit it to Irina Ivanova or Alpha Creative.
Q: I have ideas for things! To whom do I submit them?
A: That depends. If it’s something pertaining to the overall running of the fed, contact a mod or admin. If it has to do with storyline, run it by the person(s) you want to work with first, then contact admins so that we can book matches accordingly.
