What’s an E-fed anyway?
E-fedding is a hybrid role-playing / writing competition whereby you create your own wrestling character, then have that character join a “fed” so that the character can be booked weekly into a wrestling show against opponents. The winner of each match will be determined by the quality of the promos written. If those judging your promo deem yours better than your opponent, then you win. The more matches you win, the closer you get to challenging for a belt. It’s that simple.
So what’s a Promo?
If you’ve ever watched a professional wrestling show then you’ve seen a wrestler talk smack on the stick, gleefully running down their opponents while talking up their chances of victory. This is the basis of a promo. In e-fedding you can also add behind the scenes glimpses into your character and incorporate them into a promo to give it more of a narrative feel. The best promo’s will usually have a 60/40% split in favour of promo over story. The very best will seamlessly combine both elements so that the promo IS the story.
When it comes to the details included in a promo, it’s best to think of yourself as if you’re on a debate team. Judges will be looking for your knowledge of your opponent plus solid, logical reasons why your character is better than your opponent. Judges will also want to be entertained. Entertaining judges is a good trump card to play and can often swing a match in your favour. If you can make a promo exciting/fun to read, then you’ll probably pick up a victory.
Some useful terms to remember within E-fedding are:
Handler: That’s you, you handle your character, write it’s promo’s, are responsible for it’s actions.
IC: In Character, everything you post that’s the voice of your character. Promo’s, segments on wrestling shows, and twitter posts hyping your matches are all in character material.
OOC: Out Of Character, everything that’s posted as you (the handler) rather than your character. So when you’re discussing matters with fellow e-fedders on the boards as yourself? That’s OOC.
If you have any questions that remain unanswered don’t hesitate to contact either myself or a member of staff and we’ll do our best to answer them for you. Oh, and most importantly...
