Hi. Your pal Braxton/Gable here and as you may or may not know, I am a HUGE weeb. But also I have a fascination with cinema and there are a lot of instances where these 2 interests collide. Not only in the 1950's-60's Japanese cinema boom but also in more recent (and not so recent) aspects. It's kind of been a joke in our culture that Japan is a weird country with weird entertainment. I personally believe this is a culturally insensitive ideology mostly fueled by major differences that would normally occur from countries so far away from each other. And weirdness when it does exist is not exclusive to Japan but is reflected in all societies...BUT I DIGRESS!...For even though I make this point, there is indeed a noted section of Japanese entertainment that goes out of its way to be weird (even to those who are native to Japan). I have taken a special interest in said films (with a special interest in the art movement eroguro where many of these movies stem from).
What do I plan on doing with this thread? I don't know to be honest...More reviews? A discussion of history? Personally I hope to some day down the road start a youtube channel designated specifically to the study and explanation of eroguro as a whole for what it was as an art movement and how it still has an affect on, not only Japan, but the world of entertainment and art in general. This thread could be seen as kind of a precursor to that. Recommend this or that over time. Totally open to your guys' recommendations. Maybe overall get a discussion going if there is enough interest. At the moment, I have nothing to add until later. I plan on adding some stuff later as I have countless movies to talk about and it is still an ever growing facet of entertainment. Until then, what are your guys' thoughts? Do you have weird Japanese films on your mind? Do you want recommendation? I know it is an oddly specific topic but I figure there might be some interest here.
