Bio: Once a staple in the Japan circuits, Umeji came to America on the lure of greatness by American promoter, Stuart “Stewie” Mendelsohn. He brings a no-nonsense approach to his work and rarely enjoys the company of others. He takes part in the arts of haiku and Noh. Masked theater gave him the idea for an old persona (Ryū, a Ninja). He keeps the mask as a symbol of how far he’s come. He now loathes American culture while being led by the hand of an unscrupulous manager. Most think he’s a prick—he is one—but that never gets in the way of the squared circle. That baneful love of every pro wrestler.
Umeji has five younger siblings and no surviving parents. They are his true joy in life. His brother, Tōmo, wants to follow in his footsteps—much to the chagrin of the eldest brother. Umeji also has a smoking habit that even his manager finds troublesome. His greatest regret is that he cannot sing. Wherein his sister, Akane, sates this lifelong desire with her beautiful voice and shamisen skill. Siblings are the last vestige of the Japan he misses dearly. Sadly, it seems the ring offers what life cannot.
All that came to an end when, by his own volition, Umeji hung up his boots during a hot run as Rising Star Champion of UCI. Seems the only opponent he could defeat in that run was his own doubts. Time away from the ring became a pursuit of repressed passions. He mastered the shamisen, and then took on the arduous task of becoming a singer. His voice will never sell records. Nor will he ever sell an album with that voice gravelly after too many whiskey sleep tonics. Umeji still finds solace in the what wrestling gave him over the years... then, he got the call. A reunion unlike any other: UCI, one-night-only. A chance to redeem what he destroyed.
Attire: Umeji tapes his wrists. He wears kickpads over white, full-length trunks. He pairs this with a shiny, white (black at PPVs) suit with no shirt. He has no tattoos. His shoes look fashionable but are actually functional for competition.

Opening taiko drum beats to Hotei's "Katana Groove" gets a cosiderbale pop from all the UCI worshipers. Lights flicker violet shades, when from the darkness, a haiku pulses across the main screen in royal blue letters:
Champion... Dosukoi!
Within this ring all shall brawl

Umeji emerges from the curtains in his ring gear plus an extra-long black suit jacket. He also has a pair of designer shades to fill out the austere expression across his face.
Announcer: Next up, from Kobe, Japan and weighing 179 pounds... U-me-ji!
He walks the ramp letting people tap his shoulders along the way to the ring steps. Umeji wipes his shoes before running along the apron and leaning off the middle rope. Then with his body still hanging towards the stage, he whips off those expensive sunglasses and heaves them into those hungry piranhas. Umeji enter the center to little else in the way of fanfare, merely sizing up his opponents before scaling and lounging atop a table techs propped in an empty corner.
Favorite moves: Kicks: savate, bicycle, sweeps, roundhouse (single or double), enzuijiri
