Paul: Thank you for your service, I'm sure you have some very intriguing stories but we're here to talk Pro Wrestling. What kind of wrestling experience do you have? I'm guessing overseas or on the independent scene because I can't recall seeing you with any major North American promotions.
Elijah smiles wider.
Elijah: None, bro. I just been training with Mason for a couple of years. I had one match last year but I got a little carried away and realized I needed to tone down my style a little and I been off the grid since then.
Paul's eyes widen.
Paul: You mean to tell me that not only are you making your APW debut on a Pay Per View but you've only wrestled one match?
Elijah: Yep, believe me I was just as shocked as you when I found out.
Paul: I'm not gonna ask what you had to do to get such a huge match for your debut…
Elijah: It ain't like that bro. I think what happened is I been goofing around with my phone putting these videos up on YouTube with me working out and shit talking some of the biggest names in wrestling these days. I guess some dude named Ned seen my clips and showed them to the right people and they offered me a deal. I was fucking blown away dawg. My bad y'all probably having to bleep my ass.
Paul lets out a chuckle.
Paul: This is satellite radio my man, say what you want. So let's get this straight, you ran your mouth and it might come back to bite you in the ass?
Elijah: Ain't nothing biting me in the ass. I ran my mouth right into an opportunity and I made a whole other career out of just needing one opportunity to get a shot off, I don't see why this one has to be any different.
Paul nods his head and looks down at his notes.
Paul: Great answer, you speak with a lot of confidence for someone with such little experience. There has to be an immense amount of pressure on you going into World War Wrestling though right?
Elijah: Ain't no pressure, dawg. Pressure is sitting in a blazing hot desert sweating your ass off trying to line up the perfect shot from 1000 meters away and knowing if you miss it could cost you your life or the lives of your squad. That's pressure. This is like playing poker with house money. I'm gonna win, but if I don't it ain't no thing.
Paul: I mean that's a great attitude to have but have you heard the saying that you never get a second chance to make a first impression?
Elijah takes a sip from his water.
Elijah: Yeah I've heard that a time or two. I'm gonna make an impression you can count on that. I'm gonna leave the impression of my knee cap between the eyes of either Alex Scott or Madwoman Szalinski when I end their night with the Killshot.
Paul: Fair enough. Let's talk about your opponents and what they bring to the table. We know both of them have an experience advantage…
Elijah cuts him off.
Elijah: Lemme stop you there dawg. I don't play games where a specific advantage can decide the winner. So they been doing this longer than me? Big fucking deal, so has everybody else on the roster. I'm confident in my training and my skills. I got what it takes to beat Scott or Szalinski no matter how much more experience they have.
Paul: You speak like someone with much more experience than what you have but come on now you have at least a little case of the nerves right? Do you think with this being your first time in front of a crowd the size that is sure to be in attendance could serve as a distraction in the match?
Elijah grins.
Elijah: Ain't no such thing as nerves when you're an ex sniper. I don't flinch. I'm cool as a cucumber.
He holds his hand up to show it's not shaking.
Elijah: Na but for real bro, I really don’t get distracted. Being a sniper you learn to block out anything happening around you and focus on the task at hand. I’m going into this match with the same mindset. I’m glad there's gonna be a big crowd, people need to see what I can do and who knows maybe I can leave with a few fans of my own.
Paul: Is that important to you?
Elijah: Not really. I mean I ain’t planning to give them a reason to hate me but I ain’t trying to be some cookie cutter man of the people either. I think I got a style that’ll earn me plenty of fans but my confidence and unpredictability might cost me a couple. I’m aight with that.
Paul: You’re right there, you certainly aren’t lacking confidence. I’ve enjoyed our talk and I think the fans will enjoy it as well. Is there anything you’d like to say before we wrap this up?
Elijah smiles.
Elijah: I think I’ve said all I need to say. September 28th, Orlando at World War Wrestling I’m gonna let my actions speak for me.
Paul: Well good luck, if your first APW match is anything like your first interview I have no doubt you’ll be successful because this has been a great interview. I’d love to have you back on sometime, maybe even in studio if you’re ever in the New York area.
Elijah: Absolutely.
Paul: Great. I believe that’s going to do it for this episode of Mat Talks. Be sure to check out my guest this week, Elijah Dixon’s match as he faces off against Alex Scott and Madwoman Szalinski as well as the rest of the card this Sunday on Pay Per View. Thanks again for being here Elijah.
Elijah: Thanks for having me.
The scene fades.
