The camera slowly begins to churn within what looks to be the backstage section from Showdown. The lights in the room are dimly lit, and seem to offer little to no help to the souls that pass its ever looking guidance. As a lone overhead swings side by side, almost as if it were a pendulum, a figure begins to lurk within the very shadows that surround the low lit overhead. As the figure slowly wanders into the bulb’s gazing view. The figure, now seen as Gavin Drake, stands sluggishly in the center of the camera’s view.
“I think I proved my point that I made for this battle royal, as well as for those here in Alpha Pro Wrestling at tonight’s turn of events. I did not win, that is a fact, but I did in fact make it farther than most would have.. I even caught an eye or two glimpsing my way, looking to me as if I were some overlooking threat to them… It’s only a matter of time. My arrival to Alpha was short, I’ll admit. But now I get a chance to truly prove myself. Fighting in this Internet Cup Tournament, it will be where I truly leave my.. Mark, if you would. I will win this match, and I will-
What in the hell?”
Gavin smirks as the last sentence leaves his mouth. He begins to look out, to the distance, his sights on something much more important to him than the camera itself. Abruptly, Gavin shoves the camera out of his way. As the camera shifts to face Gavin once again, he stands before a large sign written in different text. The text states “Failure can be a blessing or a curse, you interpret it.”
“Someone is playing with me head, but who? It couldn’t be Ariel.. She has not had a chance to even prepare for such a task. Has she? No.. This must be something, someone different..”
As Gavin approaches the writing, he stops as he steps within touching distance of it.
“Just as I suspected, freshly written… If this is some kind of tactic by you Ariel, I have a newsflash for you. It won’t stop me. I’m going to put a quick loss on your record, and once I have done that my plans do not stop. Alpha Pro Wrestling will see what I truly can bring to the table.
Perhaps… No, it’s too risky.. You all will have to simply be left with guessing and wondering about the person that I am, outside of this ring that is. I could easily give a sob story. I could very easily say my father never loved me, and that made me gain a drive to be better than anyone he had ever seen. End of the day though? It wouldn’t be true. Why would I lie? What do I gain from that? Sympathy? What would sympathy gain me that a gym and hard work wouldn’t?I mean, seriously..”
Gavin turns his head from the writing, disregarding its existence as he walks back to his designated hunting post for the day. As he does so, the light that was once dimly lighting the area that Gavin was standing at, now flickers. Directly underneath the light, a chair sits with a desk placed directly in front of it. As Gavin approaches the desk, carved on the wood reads “sit, Hunter”.
As Gavin does so, his observant eyes quickly notice a small piece of what seems to be newspaper under the desk in the small opening. As he pulls the paper out, it seems to be clippings of multiple newspaper headings from a “Louisville Times” news article. The article, once telling a legitimate story, now just reads “WHY HAVE YOU ABANDONED US GAVIN”. As Gavin crumbles the newspaper clippings up into a ball, he notices a different mark on the desk than before.
Gavin curiously looks closer to the desk, a bit confused. As he wipes the dust from the mark, it clearly reads “Devin was here” His eyes, now wide, seem to have a look of concern as he scoots his chair out and pulls away from the desk, knocking it onto its side as he does so.
“That’s… That’s impossible. An illusion of my mind, that’s all it is. I’m quite certain that's what it is.. Just. An. Illusion.
But what if it’s not? What if… No! It can’t be! I need to focus, now is not the time to cloud my mind with thoughts of the past, especially not of that part of my past..”
Gavin, still a bit shocked, stands to his feet and attempts to disregard the desk. As he stands in the light, he tries to just not acknowledge its existence, but the desk’s mere presence has his full attention . Gavin, not in control of his emotions, yanks the chair up and begins to smash the desk to bits. As the light continues to flicker over his head, flashes of him destroying the desk are seen, but suddenly the light dies out. Gavin, now breathing so heavily to the point to where his every inhale is heard as well as his exhale.
“Did you really think you could just forget about me, Gavin?”
A deep voice echoes as the lights abruptly turn back on. Gavin, shaken to the core, turns frantically looking for the culprit of the exclamation.
“Then come and face me, if you truly want the spotlight? Come and show yourself!”
Gavin breathes heavily as he begins to weep softly, obviously shaken by the voice he had heard. His eyes, now filled with tears, and his entire body shaking in fear of what is to come next.
“We all have our demons, Ariel.. But despite me having mine, I will defeat you come next Monday. I will advance in this tournament, and you will be a reminder to all who think they can challenge me or stand in my way of my ascendance here in Alpha Pro Wrestling.
Take my match with Ariel as a warning, to all who dare oppose me, I will do to you worse than I have to any opponent of mine. I would say it's not personal Ariel, but these mind games are proving to try my patience.”
Gavin suddenly becomes silent. His eyes shift about the room, observing what little he can about the shadows themselves and what they bring before him. His breathing stabilizes itself to a quiet purr, and his flexed out muscles relax themselves, allowing for his body to simply stand in place with little to no effort given from him.
After these moments of silence, a small smirk curls upon his lips. His once observant eyes now solely focus on the camera’s direction, and his body tenses itself back up once more. As he does so in an almost instantaneous moment, his lips open as if to speak.
“It couldn’t have been Ariel.. Which means, does he live? Last I had heard he was.. He was not in as good of a state as it appears he would be in to cause this amount of stress and worry on me. I have little time for now to worry if his existence is a fosure thing or not, for right now the only thing that matters to me is my task I have laid before myself. And that is to defeat Ariel Shadow, come next Metal. All else is simply white noise that will only make me lose sight of my true goals if I pay too much attention to it. I know what I must do, and I know where my journey leads.”
As Gavin finishes his last statement he turns from the camera, walking away as he does so. The flickering light once again continues, and writing on the ground is now exposed, but Gavin has already left the room.
“See you soon Gavin… I look forward to our reunion.”
A voice echoes as the camera abruptly shuts off, with white noise playing to follow the void that is left.
