The Very Big Supervillains and Andrew Barnes like this

Hello, friends! Ned the Intern here! Prior to Monday Night Metal… APW aired four matches exclusively online for the first time. I don't know how they got that done since the contract with Netflix is pretty strict when it comes to airing new content. Maybe it's because many of the competitors aren't contracted with APW.
Anyway…
The opening match started off hot as Aaron Blaze made his long awaited return to APW. I don't remember seeing him on TV since… May… probably. His opponent was a multi-time World Champion and one of the biggest acquisitions to APW… Erik Dean. I grew up watching this guy… and he looked to be in phenomenal shape.
Their match was pretty decent but not what the fans expected for an opening match. Dean was clearly rusty and Blaze wasn't quite the right opponent for his Dean's first match in years. He still hit all the classics and got enough of a reaction from the dads in the crowd. These two for sure had very different sets of fans. The match took a weird turn when Blaze managed to hit Dean with a flipping piledriver.
They both landed extremely awkward… and both remained down for the majority of a ten count from the referee… before Apokalypse made a surprise appearance and attacked BOTH men! The match was ruled a no contest as the big man continued his assault on them. Security finally did their job and they restrained Apok, with only two of them suffering devastating blows in response.
The next match was between newcomer Victoria Sabin and the enigmatic Schizophrenia. I remember Schizo from back in the day and she's… different. Apparently she was institutionalized for a numbers of years… and she was somehow recently deemed fitting of being out in the world again. This match was fast paced and full of lots of innovated moves. Then it got… weird. Schizo took a nasty superkick from Victoria and then she… changed.
It's like she… became a different person. I know that was her schtick back in the day but this was… violent. She plumeled and ravaged Victoria, ignoring warnings from the referee… until the match was thrown out. Schizo kept on her… dragging her out of the ring and all the way backstage. I don't know what happened after that. The whole thing was hard to watch.
Up next was a triple threat match between The Doctor of Thuganomicks John Blade… and two newcomers to APW. Brother Sean and Zeke Mason. No. That doesn't sound right at all. I couldn't tell you which one was which, to be honest. Blade made quick work of both men… hitting them with all of his signature moves. He finally hit one of them with the Razor Blade on top of the other one… and he pinned someone. Sorry I don't have better details on this one, folks.
The final match of APW vs. The World was a spectacle for a number of reasons. William and Travis… Very Big Supervillains… are very… VERY… big in person. It was awesome seeing Dave Van Dam and Mike Zybala back together. Zybala has been competing for Global Championship Wrestling Association for some time now… whereas Van Dam hasn't wrestled in maybe five years… since Boardwalk Wrestling shut down. So the match started out with DVD thinking it was wise to do a test of strength with William.
It was a bad idea. Obviously. Maybe he was just excited to be back in the ring. Maybe his pre-workout gave him a testosterone boost. Either way… William won the test of strength with one hand, while eating a sloppy joe with the other hand. As Dave crumbled, he headbutted the sandwich out of William's hand, which infuriated the big man… and he nearly decapitated Dave with a clothesline. Mike ran in to save his friend, only to be big booted by William. William tagged in Travis, who got in the ring and started rapping the theme music for Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
I don't understand wingdings… because I'm a human being… but I recognized the rhythm of the song. Just a weird moment. Travis pulled both opponents up and bear hugged 'em both. Then William hit the ropes and avalanche splashed all of them… including Travis. Every one crashed to the mat… including William. The ring shook and everyone looked dead… including the referee. There was an awkward silence in the arena and then it looked like DVD had a spasm... just barely getting his hand on top of Travis' chest. The referee caught it out of the corner of his eye... and he counted to three.
Really weird way for a match to finish and it totally killed the crowd. APW should hire dancers to distract fans on the stage before shows. They sure would come in handy in a situation like that. APW vs. The World was problematic at best... but it was pretty cool to bring in new talent for a day... as well as test out airing matches live on their website. Maybe it'll happen again one day... but also maybe it won't...
