April 22nd, 2010 - Jacksonville, Florida
La Princesa de Oro was just sixteen years old when she had her first professional wrestling match. She was drawn to the sport because she felt it was the one sport that allowed her to compete and beat the boys. At 5'7 and 125 lbs she wasn't going to beat them playing basketball or football. That never stopped her from trying. Growing up with two older brothers she was always trying to beat them. It wouldn't be accurate to call her a tomboy but she wasn't the girliest of girls either. When she found wrestling it all just sort of clicked.
Footage from her first match plays as we hear the Golden Princess' voice "I'm proud of this match. I didn't win and I fucked up a few different times, but I am proud of it. My parents begged me to give up wrestling. They didn't think it was a good environment for a girl. They were probably right. I had to deflect my fair share of douche bags in the last ten years. I've been in a few bad situations but if I could go back I would do it all again. And thank God I was wearing a mask during this match because I couldn't stop smiling.
June 13th, 2019 - Wrestling Ground Zero [Columbus, Ohio]
"I don't know if I can watch this one. Oh, God. My last match."
We go to a shot of La Princesa watching the match. La Princesa was defending the PWT Championship. Her opponent is at ringside. Princesa jumps through the middle and top ropes going for a Suicide Dive. She had more momentum than she thought and was only able to graze her opponent. She slammed into the steel guardrail shoulder first.
La Princesa winces as the collision plays again. "I can still remember the sound it made when my shoulder hit the rail. I knew it was fucked as soon as it happened. I couldn't move my arm at all. I knew it was bad but I was hoping it was just a stinger. Christian and I wrestled for another seven and a half minutes. Adrenaline is a fucking glorious thing."
The last shot is of La Princesa losing. The picture freezes with a shot of her on the mat, tears streaming down her face and clutching her shoulder. "At that point I knew that it was going to be a long time before I could wrestle again. I had no idea it would be an entire year. But here we are."
July 5th, 2020- PWT: Night of Champions [Modesto, California]
The Golden Princess is running through one last workout with her trainer. She hits move after move on him. Hip toss to a dropkick into a springboard cross body. We watch as they approach the end of the session. "Tomorrow is the day! How ya' feeling, Champ?'
"I'm so ready. I can't believe it has been so long since that night." She reaches for her shoulder. "But Joey, it feels good as new. I' ll be fine."
"You're going to be better than fine. You're gonna win. But you know there is one thing that we need to do, right? One last thing before you get back in the ring. You know what it is?"
La Princesa de Oro nods reluctantly. "I don't want to do it. What if I fuck it up again? I can't go another year. I can't, Joey."
"Yes. You can." Joey responds as he drops to the mat and rolls under the bottom rope. "Come on kid, Suicide Dive."
The trepidation on her face can be seen through her mask. Her eyes tell the story. La Princesa makes a half hearted attempt but bails before jumping through the ropes.
"You've got to get out of your head. You've done it a million times." Joey responds. "You've got this. C'mon Lace.'
La Princesa looks over through the ropes. A few deep breaths later and she is hitting the ropes. She makes it to the other side and launches herself between the middle and top rope hitting a picture perfect suicide dive.
"Yes! Just like that. Babe, you're ready." Joey playfully slaps her ass and the two share a passionate kiss. Joey heads for the shower leaving La Princesa alone in the warehouse. She climbs into the ring and sits crosslegged in the corner and she begins removing the tape from her wrists.
"APW my name is La Princesa de Oro. I have been asked to wrestle in the Luchador tournament and I am overjoyed to be doing so." The tape she is picking at is stuck and she uses her teeth to tear at it.
"Wrestling is my entire life." Princesa continues."It has been my life for over ten years now. But it's been a year since I could put on the mask and become La Princesa de Oro. I fucked up my shoulder in a match just over a year ago. What followed was two surgeries, countless hours of physical therapy, and two months of training later but I am finally ready to get back in the ring."
She throws the tape from her wrists to the side and begins the process of unlacing her boots. "I wish my first match back wasn't part of a tournament against someone like Ultimo Extremo." Princesa laughs to herself.
One boot is off as she continues speaking. "After a year there will be some ring dust. It would be easier to work through that in a low key match where there wasn't as much on the line, but I didn't become La Princesa de Oro by taking the easy way. When I started wrestling I scoffed at the idea of being a women's champion. That never interested me much. Competing with the boys was the fuel I used for the first couple of years. The idea that someone would think of me as a good wrestler 'for a woman.' kept me up at night. It's not something I worry about anymore. At this point, it is pretty clear that I can keep up with the boys "
The other boot is off now and she leans back against the turnbuckle. She rests her arms on the bottom rope and looks straight ahead. Her bright blue eyes shimmer brightly as a smile forms on her lips. She continues "APW I could list my accomplishments but I won't bore you. If you're not familiar with me then Google me. Or you can watch the tournament. That's really all you will need to see."
An astute observer could detect the nerves in her voice. The subtle shaking becomes more prominent as she continues her speech. "But then again after a year who knows what my in-ring performance will look like. Keep watching after the shaky start. I think you'll see a polished, ring veteran. I think you'll see a fierce competitor that isn't scared of the big moment. Because this is a big moment. This is my chance to get back in the spotlight and prove that La Princesa de Oro is going to continue to kick ass and when gold. That's what I do."
Using the top rope she pulls herself to her feet. She places the boots on the ring apron and then runs the ropes. She hits each set of ropes once and then stops in the middle of the ring for some stretching. "I know that winning the Lucha Bowl Championship isn't going to be easy. Fuck, getting past Ultimo Extremo is going to be hard enough. That dude is almost as decorated as I am. They don't call him the Golden Prince but he's not bad, I guess."
Princesa smirks as she stretches her surgically repaired shoulder. "Ultimo, I know that this tournament is important to you. You have the same competitive spirit that I do. Beating you will not be easy. It's going to be a fucking battle."
She spreads her legs apart in a near split. She walks her hands out and then back towards herself. "But it's a battle that I am going to win. Winning might mean a lot to you but it is a crucial piece of my redemption. This is about me coming back to the sport I love and competing at the highest level I have ever competed. Ultimo, I respect you but this is the Golden Princess' time to shine. This is the time that I climb my way back to the top of wrestling and do so on this huge stage."
We watch as she hits a few stretches focusing on her legs. "La Princesa de Oro will win the Lucha Bowl Showdown. Being Ultimo Extremo is the first step, and it might be the most treacherous but I have given this sport everything I have had over the last year and I am more than ready to take that step. Treacherous or not."
After finishing up the last stretch, Princesa climbs out of the ring. She gathers up some of her gear and then heads to the showers to join Joey.
