JONES: “Incredible...”
The arena is empty of fans. The warm glow of the show lights has been turned off as the arena is now lit by the blue-green buzz of the fluorescent lights in the ceiling high above. Jones stares up into the rafters at ine light in particular that is flickering, threatening to go out. Jones’ eyelid twitches as he stares up at the light with a look of utter contempt.
JONES: “You missed the post-match interviews again.”
SMITH: “I know.”
JONES: “You missed the post-show autograph signing.”
SMITH: “I KNOW!!!”
JONES: “Are you me?”
SMITH: “I have no idea.”
JONES: “Think.”
Smith pounds his forehead with the heel of his palm over and over again, letting out a long, aggressive growl.
JONES: “I'm getting stronger. Do you see any reflections out here?! I'm not just the picture on the other side of the looking glass, Alice. I'm with you all the time now. I'm in your head. You lost to Braxton Locus. You lost us the chance to become known as THE Alpha in all of APW. You lost us a perfect winning record in our second match ever in this company. You lost us the aura of dominance.”
SMITH: “You don't know what you're talking about, Jones!”
JONES: “You looked like a fool out there tonight.”
SMITH: “That was Match of the Week. Doubt me. I am wrestler of the week!”
JONES: “Is that what we're here for? Is that why we're back?”
SMITH: “I'm back because I love this game. This game does not love me as much as it once did, but that doesn't make me hot garbage in one night. Loss happens. And it is not the fall that matters. It's what I do next that defines the type of person that I am. I will get up from this. Braxton Locus is legitimate. Beware. But, I know in my heart of hearts that there are great things in store for Smith Jones in Alpha Pro Wrestling, and you, Jones, are not going to be here to see it.”
JONES: “More therapy? Please… You need me.”
SMITH: “I don't.”
Smith looks up at the flickering fluorescent light in the rafters. It flickers for a moment longer and then… the light remains firmly lit. Smith gets up and walks away muttering to himself as he goes.
JONES: “You remain incurably clueless.”

Fade up on a shot of the APW Junior Heavyweight Championship full screen. Even though the whole screen is filled with the title belt, the camera zooms in even closer to the word CHAMPION. Dissolve to a closeup of the face of one Smith Jones as he stares into the camera lens with his signature stone scowl. Jones takes a deep breath and he speaks.
SMITH JONES: “Braxton Locus defeated me last week on the premiere of Monday Night Metal. Our Main Event mat classic became the first ever APW MOTW! Despite that crushing loss, I was named Wrestler of the Week!”
Smith's mood begins to lighten as the left side of his mouth begins to curl upward.
SMITH JONES: “And this week, my stellar efforts are being richly rewarded with a golden opportunity. Steven Osbourne. You and I will step into the ring this Monday Night Metal in an APW Junior Heavyweight Championship Contendership Match. I want to ensure that you are aware of the situation that has wrapped itself around you. The APW Junior Heavyweight Championship is the working champion’s championship. There will be no time off as champion. The champion will defend every Monday and the occasional Sunday in perpetuity. This is not the type of belt you can carry if you are not fully committed to the product; faithful to the fans. No one can stand up to this kind of pressure without the appropriate passion and, more importantly, the adequate skillset required to be the working champion’s champion. And it doesn’t even stop there! The pressure that a man like me can face on a daily basis would make any grown man cry. Even you, Steven Osbourne. That is why I’m going to save you the undue stress.”
He grins a toothy grin, increasingly devoid of sanity.
SMITH JONES: “Dean Wolf. Lucy Sixx. Osbourne. The four of us have been selected to showcase the very first available title in Alpha Pro Wrestling. I take this opportunity very seriously. I want all three of you to watch me… I want the whole world to watch me as I unequivocally prove that I am the best wrestler in this company. I’ll do it every week. And hey, I get it. How can I be so darned cocky after such a high profile loss last week? Eh? Wanna know? Because I was in that ring with that APW referee and the dastardly Badmoon himself. I looked into his eyes and I saw the rising desperation every time he thought he had me put away; every time he thought I had him put away! I heard his breathing. I felt the heat of his skin. I heard the groans. I broke him down! I almost won. That match could have gone either way and it set the standard for what a Monday Night Metal Main Event is supposed to look like! And now that I’ve been given the chance, I am going to define what a CHAMPION in APW is supposed to look like.”
Jones’ mood darkens again. The camera zooms in closer and closer to his face.
SMITH JONES: “When that bell rings, I am me. It is then and only then that I am allowed to freely rain down utter annihilation and destruction upon the unwitting heads of those who think they can fly high enough to avoid the coming storm. In that ring, I am not your friend. In that ring, I am not going to be very motivational. Steven. I’m coming to Cali to hurt someone. It’s just my job, but I love my job and I do it very well. My finisher is known the world over as the Point of Controversy. It is a devastating Backstabber to the neck that’ll shatter your C7 and put you on the shelf for an undetermined amount of time. Then, I will go on to face the winner of the Lucy Sixx/Dean Wolf match for the championship. At least, that’s the way I understand it.”
SMITH JONES: “Dean Wolf. You’d better make the most of your return match this week, because if you find yourself face to face across the boards from this particular Smith Jones in a contendership match, the party will come to an abrupt and violent end.”
His smile broadens.
SMITH JONES: “Lucy Sixx. If it’s you I wind up tangling with after I’m done painting the canvas with Steve Osbourne’s DNA, then strap in for one heck of a ride. Lucy, I can see you’ve clearly got the goods to be a massive superstar in APW and I am not in the mood to share the warmth of my spotlight with anyone. Not even a wiley rocker chick such as yourself.”
Jones turns his back to camera to show off the sparkly silver "1'm" elegantly embroidered on the back of his shiny white robe.
SMITH JONES: “Winning the Junior Heavyweight Championship will secure me my spot in the Main Event at Alpha Showdown! But the sticky thing about this championship that differentiates it from all of the other championships in Alpha Pro Wrestling is that it is defended every single week! Every match is a Championship Match. And so, I stand corrected. It is not winning the Junior Heavyweight Championship that will secure me my spot in the Alpha Showdown Main Event; it is KEEPING the Junior Heavyweight Championship that will secure me my spot in the Alpha Showdown Main Event. And until that fateful day in July arrives, I will prove week after week that I am the very best that APW has to offer. Who’s gonna be the first champion ever to be crowned in all of APW? Look no further. There is only one Smith Jones...”
Fade to black.
SMITH JONES: “...and I’m right here.”
