Dani Applegate stands in the back with Masuda Jubei and his business partner, Shoda, who seems to have fresher wrappings around his left hand. She has them set up in front of the Gods of Wrestling marquee featuring Damon Warrens and other spotlighted talent for the PPV. His associate keeps his hand held in a tender, careful way with proper elevation.
Dani: Masuda Jubei... I speak for the entire company when I say that we're all confused. APW terminated your active contract. You never returned calls after your match in Japan last September. Everyone thought you were dead. What happened?
Jubei: Dani, you can come closer than that. I didn't come here to hurt anyone.
Shoda nods along like the prayer section of a Baptist church.
Jubei: I'm not going to defend Vincent Pryde's behavior in the ring. Nor should you. He put his hands on me. I'm not responsible for his well-being after that.
Dani: Of course, our fans saw the exchange. Extreme or not, you never answered my question.
He tells Shoda to wander off, leaving the two of them to a more private interview. Applegate maintains her distance.
Jubei: What's sad is that most of these new kids have no idea how instrumental you were to making APW a company. They treat you like dirt. Don't let them push you around anymore.
Dani has a reluctant smile.
Jubei: I never died. I never told anyone that I was dead. My former associate Hashiro told your bosses that complications of my match against Jayson Price resulted in my death. Then he came before - and paid for - an expensive in-ring funeral for me. It was moving in hindsight, but a slap to the face of this growing company.
Dani: Can you elaborate?
Jubei: Hashiro was a criminal, and now he's in a Tokyo jail for embezzlement and racketeering. Guilty as charged. It took several months to recover from my injuries. My training was not for the faint of heart either. Being here, now, today, and walking as I am now... it's a testament to my doctors. People need to stop trusting the internet and do fieldwork. A little foot traffic from the APW offices would have found me safe, secure and in active recovery.
Dani follows along while separating herself from Masuda little by little during his account of the events on September 13th.
Jubei: Where are you going? We're not done yet, Ms. Applegate.
Dani: I know that. I wanted to improve your shot.
Jubei: Right... so by the way you're looking at me, there's only one thought on your mind. You want to know my plans for Alpha Pro-Wrestling. Don't you?
Dani: You literally appeared out of thing air, Jubei. What else can we ask but "why now" with this new situation being what is. On our grandest event of the year. Why now?
Masuda summons his associate to whisper something into his ear, and act that requires Shoda to lean down to Jubei's sight level. He then disappears again.
Jubei: My purpose here was for business. Nothing else. I didn't plan on coming out to the ring at all, Ms. Applegate, but Zion's lover forced my hand. Consider it a professional courtesy on behalf of Masuda Allied Technologies. We appreciate everyone's time here today; however, I have business back in Japan that calls my attention.
Dani: Wait! Masuda-sama!
That expert turn of phrase gets the former champ to stop and turn i her direction. Her shoulders shudder after saying it.
Dani: What are your plans for APW?
Jubei: To watch the rest of this show in transit. The rest is my business... but it was so nice to see you again, Dani.
Few things come as chilling as that patented smirk of the Master. With that concluded, he and Shoda leave towards a backstage area to the drowning sound of Masuda berating the larger man. Dani turns towards the camera ashen now for her wrap-up.
Dani: What more can we say - there's no one else like him. I'm Dani Applegate, stay tuned for more on AlphaProWrestling.com as we break down tonight's biggest matches!
