“Oh man, I have always loved this place!”
We open up with a shot of Eli standing in front of a store. We see the signage “Knight’s Furniture” and several different pieces mentioning going the store going out of business and 70% off. Eli is dressed in a Nike hoodie and some jeans. His precious Jr. Heavyweight Championship rests on his shoulder. Eli looks at the building for a few seconds and then back to the camera.
“Breeziacs, you might not know this about me but as a child, I was obsessed with home decor! True story! I loved all those home improvement shows and I would beg my mom to take me to this store. It’s called Knight’s Furniture now, but when I discovered this place it was Howie’s Furniture Emporium. I remember walking in here for the first time. The smell… oh, that smell was wonderful. The furniture was so crisp and new. I know it’s a little strange. Most 8-year-olds want to go to the arcade. Not me. I wanted to come here. I could spend hours obsessing over the coffee tables alone. To this day I love me a good coffee table!”
Eli laughs as he walks through the front doors and into the store. Inside we get exactly what you would expect. Furniture.
“This place was my ‘happy place.’ Breeziacs, I couldn’t wait until I was old enough to drive because then I could come here whenever I wanted. And then… my world was shattered.”
Somber look from Eli.
“I still remember my mom driving around the corner and seeing for the first time that big yellow ‘Going out of Business’ sign. Howie’s was closing. I was devastated. Tears flowed from my eyes as if I lost my pet parakeet.”
Eli stops briefly.
“Fun fact, I did have a parakeet growing up. And I named him Howie! After this place! That's how much I loved it! So Breeziacs, I am sure you can imagine how truly heartbroken I was at the thought of this magical place going out of business! I begged my mom to buy every piece of furniture in the place to help keep it open. She didn’t go for it. She said that things moms say about money and trees. You know the line! But I refused to let Howie’s die. I tried to raise money. I cut my neighbor’s grass. I looked in couch cushions. I tried to join the Girl Scouts so I could sell their cookies, steal the money and donate it to Howie. When they said that boys can’t join the Girl Scouts I started my own scout troop and started to sell my Nana’s cookies. Of course, Nana’s cookies are the best and so I ate them all before I could sell a single one. Alas, I had to admit that I couldn’t save Howie’s.”
Once again, devastation fills Eli’s face.
“I still remember the day they officially closed. It was by far one of the hardest days of my life. I wept. I tried to envision a life without Howie’s and I just couldn’t do it. I thought my life was over. But Breeziacs, I moved on. And then something happened that would forever alter the course of my life. One month after Howie’s closed my mom told me the news. A NEW furniture store was opening up! It was one of the happiest moments of my life! My mom brought me to this new place that afternoon. Breeziacs, I was shocked when we walked into the store on that fateful afternoon.
Another pause from Beazley.
“Everything was the same. They had the same furniture. The same signs. The same paint. The same employees. Heck, Howie was even managing the store. The only thing that had changed… the name of the place. Howie’s Furniture Emporium was now Dale’s Furniture. Oh and… I later found out that Howie had changed his name to Dale! Who would have thought!? That’s when my mom broke the news to me. She said that furniture places like this go “out of business” and open up again with a different name. She said it was a kind of scam. They do it so they can hold going out of business and grand opening sales. A scam? Not Howies! But Breeziacs, that is exactly what they were doing. Over the next five years, this placed closed and opened 6 different times. Each time the name was different but everything was the same. I can’t say that. One time they did swap the couch section with the beds, and another time they did repaint. But other than that it was the same. It was a scam. The magic was gone.”
Eli pauses to look around the store. He is surrounded by mattresses. He sits down on the edge of one of them and looks into the cameras.
“Breeziacs, why am I telling you all this? Why open these old wounds? It’s simple. It’s because of The Artist Formerly Known as Flop. You see, like Howie’s, Flop has rebranded. He has changed his name. He has changed his ‘persona’. He’s darker now. More deranged than before. On the surface, Heironymus Watts might seem different from Flop. But as we learned from this place, a new name and a fresh coat of paint don’t change much!”\
Eli climbs off of the mattress and walks out of the store. Once outside he turns to face the cameras.
“Flop…. Errr, Harry. Sorry. You might have a different name now. You might act a little different. You might be able to look in the mirror and convince yourself that you’re different. I’m a pretty open-minded guy. My fans are forward-thinking individuals! If you want to change your identity the Breeziacs and I will support you! The Breezy Way is all about embracing one’s self. But whether you are Flop or Harry Watts, the result will be the same at Gods of Wrestling. Just like the first two times our paths have crossed, I will beat you.”
“Harry, it’s only been two weeks since I beat you to keep this title. Two weeks! You may have gone through a classic rebrand, but I hardly think that is enough time to do anything significant enough to change the outcome of this match. “I am looking forward to it Harry. This is the biggest show of the year and it there is no better place for this clash to happen! And it’s going to be a clash for sure. Because I know you want this victory. I know that you want to be a champion. At Gods of Wrestling, we will see who wants it more. I have a feeling that’s going to be me. Because, Harry, pro wrestling is a beautiful thing.
We get a long pause from Eli now. His smile fades and he gets real serious.
“Harry, professional wrestling is so full of theatrics. I know that better than anyone. I brought you all to a furniture store for crying out loud. But the beauty of this sport is that all of those theatrics go away once we step in that ring. You see, Harry, the ring doesn’t care about any of this. It doesn’t care about our banter back and forth. It doesn’t care about your rebrand or my gorgeous hair. The wrestling ring strips all of that away. When that bell rings it comes down to two men and who is going to outlast the other. It’s a beautiful sport. It’s simple. You can’t hide in the ring. It has a way of accentuating your strengths and exposing your weaknesses.”
“Harry, I’m not the best wrestler in APW. Not even close. There are guys and gals with more skill. Bigger and stronger dudes fill out this roster. There are people with way more accolades. I know that. But what sets me apart is my heart. I don’t quit. Harry, you should know that better than anymore. This will be our third time in the ring together. You know what I bring. There is a reason that I still have this belt after three title defenses in 60 days. There is a reason why people, like yourself, haven’t been able to rip this away from me. I don’t quit. I don’t give up. Wrestling is my life. It’s what makes me whole. You can change your name all you want. You can play mind games with me. But Harry until your heart and your passion match mine… the result will be the same. Eli Beazley is walking out of Gods of Wrestling still the Jr. Heavyweight Champ.”
Eli pats the title, throws up a peace sign and walks away.
