"Breeziacs! I promised you that I would have a match on Metal this week and I think it's safe to say that your boy came through! This week I'm putting this beautiful hunk of gold on the line in a match against Flop! This is a match that I'm excited about. It's a match that has been in the making for a long time. Its a match that means a lot to me and to understand why I have to take you back to day one. Back to where it all began! I could just stand here and tell you about it. Or I could take you there. So what do you say? Field trip? Of course the answer to that question is ALWAYS yes! So… Let's go!'
The following words appear on the screen.
The Crowning of Elii:
Labor and Delivery
St. James Hospital:
San Diego, California {July 1994}
A woman's scream break the silence that had fallen on our screens.
"Breathe, honey, 1….2….3...4…5"
The screaming woman is Barb Beazley. Mother of Eli. She is lying on a hospital bed, legs spread wide in the stirrups. Eli's dad is at her side. Baby Eli Beazley is clearly on the way.
'Are you getting all of this?"
Eli's father asked the man holding the camera. The camera nods.
"You're doing great, Barb. Push!"
That voice comes from a male doctor who is all up in her Barb's nether regions! Barb makes a hard push and screams wildly.
"Here he comes!'
More screaming from Barb.
"You with the camera, get over here. Get a shot of the head crowning."
The camera moves around to the foot of the bed and just as we are about to get a shot of Eli making his 'debut' the screen switches to a shot of grown-up Eli who looks mortified.
“WOAH, WOAH, WOAH!!! That is NOT what I meant when I said back to where it all began! No one wants to see my maiden voyage down the birth canal! I was thinking of something a little more recent and something a lot less creepy! I was actually talking about this spot right here.”
Eli is standing in what wrestling junkies know is called Gorilla. Eli points at a heavy black curtain that is behind him. The curtain has an arrow pointing to the curtain’s opening. On the other side of the curtain is the arena. Eli continues pointing for a few seconds and then turns back to the cameras.
‘This is where it all began. Right here behind this curtain. It was just over two months ago that I was standing right here waiting to burst through this curtain and make my debut in APW. It’s right here where I stood nervously waiting for my music to hit so I could go out there and wrestle in front of the millions of future Breeziacs. That was the single biggest moment of my life up until then. This is a cutthroat business and I knew that it was incredibly important that I go out to that ring and show the world what I was made of. I knew that chances like that don’t come along often. As I stood here there was only one thing going through my head over and over. Only one thought and that was simply ‘beat Flop.’”
“I’m sure most of you remember the first time you laid eyes on The Breezy One, but let me remind those that don’t. That night I was in a fatal four-way match against Flop, Trey Bouchet and Salvatore Marino. I knew before the match that I could wrestle circles around Salvatore and Trey. I knew that I was better than them. I knew that only one person stood between me and a victory. That was Flop. Without a doubt, he was the toughest competitor of the group. So as I stood right here waiting to wrestle my mind was on him. I knew that I had to be focused on him at all times and that beating him was going to be a battle. Now Breeziacs some of you might be wondering what happened that night. It was a glorious night. It was a night that I know that it is a night that will be written about the history books because it was the start of the Breezy Dynasty. I went out there and picked up the victory. I made my mark. I let APW know what “Breezy” Eli Beazley was all about.”
“It’s only been two months but I have come along way since that night. I’ve won a hell of a lot more than I have lost. I have been in the ring with some of the best wrestlers APW has. I get to go out there and do what I love for you adoring fans! I even recently started a charity to help those disadvantaged folks who were born left-handed. Honestly, things have gone great. I even won this little beauty”
Eli pats his belt as he turns and looks at the curtains again.
“Flop, a lot has changed since that night. I’m no longer just the newbie with the beautiful hair and the million-dollar smile. I am a champion now. I’m one of the names they put on the marquee. And you… well, you’ve changed so much that you’re not even going by Flop anymore. Harry, is it? A lot has changed but when tomorrow night I am going to feel the same way I felt that night two months ago. I am going to stand right here knowing that I have a battle in front of me. I am going to stand right here with only you on my mind.”
“Flop, I know that I won our last battle. But I also know that nothing in this sport is guaranteed. And I know that this time there aren’t going to be two other guys to distract you. Flop, you’re one hell of a wrestler. You bring something to the ring that others just don’t. You have an edge to you. You are willing to do anything it takes to destroy your opponent. Believe me, I know how dangerous you are. And I know that I am getting one hundred percent of your attention tomorrow night. I am going to get your very best effort. And I know that if I want to wake up on Tuesday morning as the Jr. Heavyweight Champion then I need to bring my ‘A’ game.”
“My ‘A’ game is exactly what you’re getting tomorrow night. Flop if I have proven anything over the last two months it is that I can win. I know what it takes to get in the ring with the best of the best and come out victorious. I have done it time and time again. I know it’s not going to be easy tomorrow night but I know that I can and WILL win tomorrow night.”
“Two months ago I stood right here hoping that I could beat you. Hoping that I could somehow overcome the odds and pick up a victory. You were the biggest threat to my success and that is the case now. But there will be no hoping on my part. I am not hoping that I beat you. I am planning on it. I am expecting a win tomorrow night. And If I wrestle at the level we all know that I am capable of then my reign as champion will continue. Flop, you may bring an edge to the ring that most don’t but I bring something unique to. I bring the freaking heart of a lion. I bring passion and a refusal to give up. I also am planning on bringing 10,000 raging Breeziacs with me tomorrow night. ”
Eli smiles as he shifts his body and moves the championship to his shoulder.
“Breeziacs, I don’t know about you but I would sure like to see the Jr. Heavyweight Championship remain on the shoulder of your fearless leader! I would love to hold onto this belt for a while. I would love to continue this crazy ride we are on. And I know that with or without the belt that Breezy nation will continue to grow and grow, but gold does look good on us! Am I right?”
Breezy nods.
“Tomorrow night is a big one. I’m prepared. I’m confident. I’m ready. Let’s do this. Breezy out.”
And with that Eli walks away from the camera.
