"To say that Eli Beazley has taken APW by storm would be an understatement. Here we are 4 weeks into his stint and he is, in my book, the odds on favorite to walk out of the PPV the Jr. Heavyweight Champion."
Eli Beazley presses the pause button on his phone. The podcast that he had been listening to stops playing immediately. Eli grins as he looks up at the camera.
"Odds on favorite? I like the way that sounds."
"Breezy Nation, at Liberty or Death I get my first shot at APW gold as I take on the Jr. Heavyweight Champion. Now when I look at the match up against Cecilia Ortiz I have to admit that it looks pretty good for ol' Breezy. I should have her beat based on my experience alone. The girl has been wrestling for what? A few months? I've been at this thing for the last 7 years. Experien..."
Before Eli can finish talking the garbage can in the hallway explodes with movement. The lid pops off and a masked man lunges at Eli. Eli grabs the man and punches him in the gut. He then hits a DDT on the masked man and leaves him lying in the middle of the hallway. Eli stands up and continues to walk down the hall again as if nothing had happened.
"As I was saying. When it comes to experience in the ring I will have the advantage. When it comes to skill in the ring... Well, Cecilia is a very talented wrestler but I like to think Breezy is just a little bit better. Part of that goes back to experience and part of that is just natural. I do want to pause to say that Cecilia is a natural-born wrestler. She is damn good. Hell, Breezy is a member of her fan club. But like I said, I think I have the advantage when it comes to skill.”
Eli has reached the elevator. He pushes the button and we hear that familiar ding right away. The doors slide open and immediately Eli is ambushed by two more masked assailants. Eli shoves the first man and then grabs the second man by the back of the head. He slams him face-first into the wall next to the elevator. The first man is back and has Eli in a sleeper hold. Eli tries to shake him off but to no avail. Eli then slams his body backward until the man’s back collides with the wall. Eli turns and grabs the man. He drops the assailant with a Breezy Bomb and then turns just as the second man is reaching his feet. Breezy grabs him once again and tosses him into a laundry cart that a maid is pushing down the hall.
Eli turns back to the camera. Fixes his hair with one hand and then makes his way onto the elevator. Once again, Eli acts as if nothing happens.
“When it comes to the other intangibles I think the advantage goes to Breezy again. Size, strength, athleticism and in-ring pizzazz all go my way as well. Don’t think for a second that I am overlooking Cecilia. I’m not. Not by a long shot. I’ve been watching a lot of tape on Cecilia and I can tell you that she is a sneaky good athlete. She may not be the biggest or strongest wrestler that I will go up against but she makes up for that in speed and agility. She can move in the ring in ways that I can only dream of. I wish I was as light on my feet as she is.”
Eli continues to talk but his words are suddenly not as important because the camera pans up and over and we see one of the ceiling tiles in the elevator starts to move. A fourth masked assailant begins to lower herself down into the elevator. Eli seems not to notice until he feels the woman give him a forearm shot to the back of the head. Eli is knocked forward but is able to turn around quickly and block a few punches from the woman. Eli throws a forearm shot of his own back at the woman and she stumbles back. Eli blocks a kick and then is able to grab the woman and slam her back first into the wall of the elevator. Her body hits the floor as we hear the elevator bell.
Eli walks out into the lobby of the hotel. A masked man comes zooming into the cameras shot. Eli sidesteps the attacker and the man goes flying into the open elevator. Eli shrugs it off and continues down the hallway.
“Breeziacs, I do plan on winning that belt for all of you in Breezy Nation. I do feel confident going into the match. I probably am the favorite to win, but does that mean it is going to be easy? As my grandma used to say every time I asked her for a sip of her booze. “HECK NO!” This match isn’t going to be easy at all. Just like last week against Jaice, it is going to be an absolute battle. Because I may have the advantage in a lot of ways but Cecilia’s greatest strength is something that is hard to prepare for.”
Breezy ducks a clothesline from another assailant. This man ends up eating a body slam from Eli. One more body is left in the middle of the hallway and Eli continues to ignore it. Eli walks through the door and is now outside. As he walks by the pool we get another attack. Eli hits this person with a back body drop and the person goes flying into the pool. Eli looks over his shoulder at the man in the pool. He looks back at the camera.
“Cecilia’s greatest strength is that she is unpredictable. She makes up for her small size and lack of experience with guts and instincts. You can hit the gym hard. You can spend years and years in the ring. You can be big and…” Eli looks down at a bicep. “Kinda strong. You can have every advantage in the world. But someone like Cecilia can take you out pretty quick if you’re not on your toes and ready for anything.”
“I’ll be honest, it has been a while since I have wrestled someone as crafty as Cecilia. Preparing for someone like her is really tough. You can’t prepare for the unexpected. But what I can, and will, do is rely on my natural instincts. I can make sure that I am 100% focused. I can eat my Wheaties and get a good nights sleep. And at the end of the day I will win this match because I am damn good at adjusting my strategy and dealing with the unexpected.”
“Honestly, have you seen the trail of bodies I have left in the short time we have been filming this? The one in the elevator almost got me! Who comes out of the ceiling?”
Eli laughs.
“In case you were wondering… I did find an adult karate class and I am paying them a small fortune to follow me around this week and try to get me. Hopefully it will help to keep me on my toes. This hotel has been pretty cool about it. I can tell you that they were not very chill at the library.
But I digress.”
“Cecilia, I know that at the end of the day. These ‘attackers’ don’t compare to the challenge I will face at Liberty or Death. You are a damn good wrestler. I can’t even imagine how good you will be with some more experience. It’s scary to think about! And Cecilia, I am in no way overlooking you. I know it is going to be a great match. But at the end of the day I really, really want to be Jr. Heavyweight Champion. I want to add that to my growing resume in APW and unfortunately, you stand in my way.”
“Cecilia, we both have very bright futures in APW. But at Liberty or Death the rise of ‘Breezy’ Eli Beazley will continue and at the end of the match, I will be Jr. Heavyweight Champ.”
“Breezy… out!”
And with that Eli makes his way over to his rental car and we watch as he climbs in and drives away.
Fade to black.
