In an abandoned building, near to where Alpha Pro Wrestling’s live Monday Night Metal live program is set to begin later in the night, an APW cameraman was sent to the location in effort to find APW’s newest talent to sign to the roster, Aaron Alstead. As the cameraman made his way into the building, dust and cracked windows were seen as also was broken glass that would crack and break under his feet as he walked to an opening that overlooked the nearby street. As the cameraman walked towards the opening, whistling could be heard as the cameraman looked around to find the sound. As he turned and walked backwards viewing what was around him, the whistling began to sound clearer and as the man turned to the window, standing with his arms folded on the window pane was Aaron.
[AA] “I’m glad you could make it”.
Aaron was still standing looking out the window as the cameraman spoke.
[Cameraman] “Aaron…”
[AA] “I asked you here because you have proven yourself worthy. Now sit in the chair”.
The cameraman noticed a folding chair on the floor and picked it up and sat in the chair.
[AA] “We’ll get to the interview but have you seen this view. It’s a shame”.
Confused at what he meant, the cameraman asked, “what do you mean”?
[AA] “It’s a shame that my first match is in Canada of all places. All the years I’ve traveled and competed in matches that would set me on fire or be sent through glass tubes, I have never wrestled in Canada”.
[Cameraman] “If we can start, we have a few hours until the show and I’d like to send this to them so it can be put on the air”.
Aaron turns around to reveal his half-painted face as that of a skull.
[Cameraman] “Whoa! Um, where would you like to stand or sit for this interview”?
[AA] “If you’ve got a Black and White filter on there, use that. Just roll the camera and I’ll handle it”.
The cameraman begins unloading his camera from his bag and sets it up as Aaron asks. He then gives Aaron a countdown.
[Cameraman] “I’m rolling in 3...2...1”.
[Recording]
Aaron takes a deep breath as he continues looking out the window.
[AA] “You know, it was just a week ago I was on my way to speak with the APW management, the same guys that hired you, and they proceeded to tell me what they have to offer here. I would hear stuff like this place is a madhouse but what makes it a madhouse? See, I know what a madhouse is because I have been there. I spent years locked up in an asylum to where all I could do was to fight for what I wanted. I had to fight for food. I had to fight to take a shower. I had to fight for a chance at freedom and you know what, after a while, I got tired of fighting. I decided that one day, I would sit back and watch and I noticed something that the men and women that were locked up there with me were fighting for one thing and that was to escape.
They were fighting to escape the torture and the humility that the Orderlies and would put them through. They were fighting to escape the bullshit that the Overseer or The Warden would have them do. And those that lost, they were treated like animals because that’s what those who looked over them saw them as. They weren’t criminals but they were athletes who loved the Sport of wrestling. Some of them may have done some things but this isn’t ballet. It’s a cutthroat business and they didn’t mind showing you that they could cut your throat by taking everything away from you. That’s why I did my part and got out of there and what did I find, I found a place that I could let out that frustration and all the built up anger. I suddenly snapped and when I did, it took this business to hold me together because now that I’m out of that place, it wasn’t wrestling but a glorified underground fight club.
So I traveled around actually wrestling in a few places all over and but that place kept staying in the back of my mind and wouldn’t let go. So I let it dwell and while I was allowed to be myself, a few places I just can’t go back to. Not because I don’t want to but because I was banned from there. But I know you have a job to do and I don’t want to keep you from it so go ahead”.
[Cameraman] “No, no, you’re doing fine. You said that you were signed a week ago”?
[AA] “I was signed a week ago so tonight would be my debut”.
[Cameraman] “Right, your debut”.
[AA] “Now that you have a glimpse into my past, I want to give you a taste of my future. Tonight begins my future”.
The cameraman pauses the video and puts down his camera.
[Cameraman] “Can you do something different, I want you to be able to be yourself and just talk to the camera like you’re talking to your next opponent”.
[AA] He says with slight confusion in his voice, “And my next opponent would be”?
The cameraman pulls out his cell phone and looks up the card for the night’s Monday Night Metal broadcast and shows Aaron his opponent.
[AA] “Cray Mitchell…”
[Cameraman] “He’s a new guy so probably making his debut tonight too. It says he’s the ‘Guru of Glee’...”
[AA] “Glee? What am I facing, a Broadway buff”?
[Cameraman] “It looks like it. So let’s start over. Are you ready”?
[AA] “Let’s do this, keep that Black and White filter on there. Use that and shoot me from the chest up”.
As the cameraman makes some slight adjustments, Aaron has an idea and uses his surroundings. A deep freezer that was near the wall, he walks over and opens it to reveal a bag of dry ice. Obviously leftover from whatever was there before the building was abandoned, he brings the bag over and tells the cameraman…
[AA] “Let’s use this. Have the vapors billow up behind me and just start recording”.
A smile comes across the cameraman’s face as Aaron opens the bag. As the humidity and breeze comes through the building, the vapors from the ice begin to rise and the cameraman takes a few pictures as well while recording. Seeing the Red light come on the camera, Aaron begins talking. His voice changes from that of normal conversation to determination and drive as he speaks.
[AA] “Tonight will mark my Genesis but right now we're going to play a little game. It’s the age old game of Truth or Dare. Have you played it? I’m sure you have. See, on the Tenth day of month Two, a deed was signed. Truth. I look now before me and I dare find myself in a realm of mortals who pursue immortality. Do I dare persuade you as you gaze upon that which you do not know? Let your curiosity dwell in your mind of the pain that awaits”. A devilish smirk comes across his face. “Truth. Seven days have passed now it is time to step into that realm where mortal and immortal have stood. Tonight, the truth will be told of the dare to defy becomes real. The truth of the pain you will suffer shall be prevalent. The dare to step into my world is predestined for you.
Inside every man is fear but those who choose to obey that fear end up succumbed to that which they shall never overcome. Tonight, I warn but not for you because you will not heed the warning. You will not listen to reason in your quest to weed out tares that blind your vision. You do not heed any relative notion in which your shell of existence will be altered. In a world of warriors and barbarians, you lust after the battle and shedding of blood and tonight you will be the one who sheds for all to see. Tonight will be the rise of a demon that I cannot contain. I will not be responsible for what happens...for what happens to your body or for what happens to your spirit as tonight begins my journey to take your soul into the darkened realm from whence I inhabited.
You must come to that moment and it shall place yourself in a darkened state of mind where no man can ever go and where you cannot bring any being. In my head is this torture that must be set free and the truth will be set free as I introduce you to what awaits. I will introduce you to your end”.
Aaron closes his eyes and written on his eyelids is a name. Written in Black marker is the name…”CRAY MITCHELL”. The camera feed suddenly begins to static and abruptly cuts off.
