A busy but tranquil street market spread across a dirty road is interrupted by gunfire. Crowds of people duck for cover, stall owners flip their tables and awnings over to provide a safe place to hide. Business owners destroying their own livelihood because human life is more important. Members of the cartel have attacked a rival gang with no concern of innocent casualties that are in the way. Gunfire only lasts for a minute before the neighbourhood falls silent.
“Lo matamos, vamos a la mierda!”
The five gunmen all wearing balaclavas jump onto the back of a pickup and speed off. The townspeople start to appear and sulk away or rebuild the market. Behind a knocked over stall, sat centre row for the cartel’s massacre sits El Muertos in full face paint and a red hoodie with the words ‘Luchador Libertad’ written across.
El Muertos: Drugs, Money, Power. It doesn’t matter to these people, ese. It’s all evil. I know something about evil and I'll show you.
El Muertos stands and starts to walk against the flow of people leaving the market. No one dares approach the alleyway the cartels aimed their fire power on. No one wants to see the damage but more importantly no one wants to be associated with the mess that's been left behind in their small town.
El Muertos: You are the sum of your actions. And your actions are the sum of your relationships. People. La gente causa dolor. Your people are your strength, or your weakness. It matters if their evil affects you or not.
He stops at the corner of the alleyway and stops the camera following him. Taking a peek around the corner El Muertos’ body relaxes, as if any of the day’s joy has just abandoned his soul.
El Muertos: !MUERTO! MUErto! muerto.
He turns to look directly into the camera.
El Muertos: DEAD! That means dead. And at the hands of people that want drugs, money, and power. Mexico’s evil trinity. The people they knew, causó mucho dolor, those gun men’s evil killed these people. You know how that feels Vince Garza. Your people, their evil hurt you.
El Muertos steps back and slides down the wall into a crouched position.
El Muertos: Vinny, ese, you and me have a lot in common. We are suffering, we are hiding our faces and we use professional wrestling as a relief. I know how it feels to suffer loss because of drugs. The only difference is that my people continue to lose. You have a chance to turn your suffering into something good. Deja que te ayude. Your battle with evil is over, i can see you are letting yourself become the evil. You are become those men, no respect for innocence. We have a never ending battle with real evil. My friend, tu perra, don’t hide your face, wear your scars proudly, you're still alive. Let them become your strength. My people warn there scares to let the evil know we are not afraid.
He points back at the alley way but again stops the camera looking around.
El Muertos: They are not so lucky as you. Gringo! I know your pain and worse. We all do down here. You need to fix your head and move on. Sorry I’m not so sympathetic but i’ve lived a life of death. Where i’m from everyday the evil of these lands claims another innocent soul. All for drugs, money and power. I know you’ve seen evil, but yours is not out of control, unlike ours. You are lucky your evil did not kill you, thank the gods you are still alive and don’t waste your second chance.
The luchador stands and starts to walk back into the market along the dirt road. The owners have corrected their stalls now and customers have started to come back out of hiding. The atmosphere is melancholy now the buzz has been strained. El Muertos steps so slowly through the market to take in everyone around him.
El Muertos: Mr. Garza, you know that is a Spanish name? I’m sure you do. I was looking forward to us meeting. We have so much in common, yet ese, your evil controls you. We all saw what you did to that doctor. What a shame. Me siento triste por tus acciones. You fed your evil by hurting him.
He stops and passes a few coins to a stallholder in exchange for taking an apple. Taking care to make direct eye contact with the camera El Muertos takes a bite of the apple.
El Muertos: Your evil will only grow more hungry. Until it drives you to do things you will no longer want to do. Unspeakable evil waits for you at the end of your road. El mal indescriptible está al final de tu camino. Hermano, our match is a turning point for you. Join me in my viaje del mal, to fight against evil to help those like yourself, struggling for control. Or will you let your evil take control. For me, ese, i do not care, you do not pose as much a threat as you think you do. You're a scared little boy. Grow up and become a man, deal with your evils. Start by taking that mask off, your letting the evil hide inside you.
Another bite of the apple.
El Muertos: Let me help you Vince, let me hurt you. From defeat you’ll grow to understand your evil is only holding you back. From defeat you, ese, will become a man. Take off the mask Vince, confront the evil behind you so that the evil ahead of you can be tamed. No more hurting innocents eh? From defeat you will see the pain you cause to others only hurts yourself more. The pain i cause you will release the evils, i can cure you from the real pain you lock inside you. From defeat mister Vince Garza you will be healed. LET ME HURT YOU.
Another bite of the apple.
El Muertos: No tengas miedo al final, déjame lastimarte.
