The camera flickers on to Cecilia Ortiz sitting in her shared hotel room with her tag partner, Lucy Sixx. She stared down at her new Junior Heavyweight Championship belt. She was still in shock, she had only stepped into a ring twice before winning this title. “Fuck.” She muttered before looking up into the camera. “Look. I know all of you at home are excepting this great new champion’s speech that many others have when they win.. But I don’t have one. I didn’t think this would happen so suddenly, if at all. I got the upper hand on Alex Scott last week, and it was one hell of a match and he was one hell of a competitor. But with this business, it’s week in and week out. I have to look forward and try to keep this good luck streak going. This week I will be face to face with someone who worked for a legend of the trade. Vincent Walker, I’m sorry to say the only thing that I can remember about you is that you were L Verez’s Biographer. Gimme a moment.”
She pulls her cellphone out and googles his name, after a few moments of scrolling she tilts her head. “Ah, I see.. I know Harry "Hippo" Diderot from Action Wrestling.. You literally STOLE his television title. That wasn’t very nice of you.. Let’s face the facts, Vincent. You’ve done nothing of importance in your career. Look at Alex Scott who I’ve defeated already, he was the champion for seventy days. If I, a newbie, can take down a great man like Alex Scott, why do you think you have a chance against me? Not to toot my own horn, but I have some of the best trainers in the business and I have the work ethic of no other. That’s why I am going to walk away still the Alpha Pro Wrestling’s Junior Heavyweight Champion after our match on the 3rd.”
The hotel door that was inframe behind Cecilia slowly opened and her face lit up as she jumped around. Lucy had returned from the gym. “Daddy!” Cecilia exclaimed and ran towards her tag team partner. “Improve any?”
Lucy nodded and patted Cecilia’s head. “Of course babydoll, faster every day. Did you do anything exciting while I was out.” Lucy tilted her head before stepping into the bathroom out of the camera’s view to change and shower, she left the door open so the two could continue the conversation.
Cecilia’s head snapped to the camera and started laughing loudly. “Not really, I looked up Vincent Walker cause I didn’t know who I was getting into the ring with, but he doesn’t seem like any threat. But, I started recording my internet thing today. Should we explain the whole ‘Daddy’ thing for the Alpha Pro universe? They might think it’s a little weird.”
Lucy called out. “Nah, the internet calls everyone Daddy anyway, I don’t think people will question it too much. Are you recording now?”
“Uh.. Yeah? Is there a problem with that?”
“Nope. Just curious. That’s all.”
“Oh, okay! Can I be honest with you, Lucy..? I don’t know how I got into this position. When I signed up for Alpha Pro Wrestling, I never wanted to be a champion. I loved the rush I felt in that Cruiserweight Rumble and wanted more. I got lucky these past few matches and I don’t know when my beginner’s luck is going to run out, because it will. Sooner or later, I’m going to lose and I’m going to disappoint everyone. You, Geri, Estrella, the fans.. All of you will be disappointed in me and I don’t know how I’m going to deal with that. I’m scared. I can handle the physical part of this job. Getting hurt is nothing for me.. But I’m going to let so many people down. I’m still green. I never went to fighting school, I went to business school. I was taught the in and outs of the back of this crazy ride. I don’t know how to handle all this, I just wan-”
Cecilia was interrupted in her anxiety-fueled rant by Lucy rushing over in her towel and wrapping Cecilia in a bear hug. Cecilia just started weeping into her friend’s chest, the anxiety and pressure of her position just becoming too much for the young girl.
“Shhh.. You’re fine. Look at me, Ceci..” She grabbed Cecilia’s face gently raising it up and wiping the girl’s eyes before speaking again. “No one excepts you to win every time. Not saying you’re not amazing at what you do, but you’re still new. You’re going to make mistakes and you will learn from it. Take a deep breath baby doll.. Because all those people you think you’re going to disappoint are here in your corner supporting you.” Lucy stroked Cecilia’s hair calming her down before looking over to Cecilia’s laptop.. “Wait.. Is that thing streaming?” She jumped up and cut the feed causing the scene to go black.
