Welcome to the DEFINITIVE edition of THE ALPHA AWARDS!
2019 Of The Year Awards, presented LIVE!

The Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California lights up with an explosion of camera flashes as fountains of pyro erupt in sequence, running the length of the ramp from stage to ring. The crowd pops as Mike Clearwater and Jonah “Remi” St. Remington step out from behind the curtain, smiling and waving to the fans as they make their way to the ring. Remi climbs a turnbuckle and raises his arms high to another wave of applause as Clearwater takes his place in the center of the ring and waits for Remi to return to his side.

Clearwater: ALPHA PRO FANS! WELCOME to the first-ever Alpha Year-End Awards! This has been an incredible journey so far, since we opened our doors back in June --

Remi: Dude! Has it really only been SIX MONTHS?

Clearwater: Hard as it is to believe, my friend, it has! So much has happened; we’ve come so far in such a short time; and we couldn’t have done it without the hard work of our roster and especially the support of all these dedicated fans! Alpha Pro fans are the best in the business. You guys are the real superstars here!

A cheap pop from the crowd.

Remi: No lie, my dudes and lady-dudes and non-binary dudes! We love you all! And without you, we wouldn’t be the company we are today! You’re the reason we’re here tonight, to honor and celebrate the greatest talents in this business.

Clearwater: Right you are, Remi! But before we get to handing out those awards, Alpha Pro Wrestling would like to take a moment to remember one man who tragically lost his life this year, and did it giving his all in the ring. Please join us in a moment of silence for former APW World Champion, Masuda Jubei…

The house lights dim. On the AlphaTron, a video package plays highlights of Jubei’s career: stunning moments in the ring -- his debut against Braxton Locus, the dominant victory over Trent Page, his vicious battles with Nyeo Son, his World Title win -- and finally ends with an image of Masuda Jubei himself.

Remi: Truly, a force to be reckoned with. The locker room may not agree, but a competitor of his caliber will be missed in this business.

The image slowly fades away, and the AlphaTron goes dark once more.

Clearwater: I couldn’t agree more, Remi. Stay tuned, wrestling fans -- there’s more to come after this commercial break!

General Manager’s Announcement

A drone camera pans across the crowd to finally settle on the two commentators in the ring.

Clearwater: Well, 2019 was certainly a year to be remembered! As a matter of fact --

The crowd breaks into a chorus of booing as General Manager Irina Ivanova steps onto the stage, dressed in a form-fitting red dress trimmed in white fur, thigh-high black boots, and a santa hat. One perfectly-manicured hand raises in a gesture for silence, red nails sparkling under the bright lights. Slowly, the noise dies away.

Irina Ivanova: Comrade Michael, Comrade Remi -- please pardon the interruption, but before we begin festivities, I have an announcement. It pains me to have to share this news tonight, of all nights, when we should be celebrating the best and brightest this company has to offer. However, my news concerns the World Champion… or shall I say former World Champion.

A murmur ripples through the crowd.

Remi: What did she just say?

Irina Ivanova: Now, as you all know, Comrade Wolf and I have never seen eye-to-eye, but he has always had my respect. He earned his place at the pinnacle of this company. However, I regret to inform you all that Mr. Wolf has been found in violation of several terms of his contract with Alpha Pro Wrestling, too numerous to elaborate tonight. In addition, several individual parties have filed stalking and harassment charges, among others, against our Mr. Daniel Dexter, and indictment is pending. A full statement will be released to the press by the end of this week. But suffice it to say that Mr. Dexter, known as Dean Wolf in the ring, is hereby released from his contract with Alpha Pro Wrestling. Effective immediately, both the World Heavyweight and Hardcore Championships are vacated, and Mr. Dexter is no longer eligible for any of the awards he has been nominated for. As the nature of some of the charges pending against Mr. Dexter is both graphic and disturbing, extra security has been hired to prevent him from entering this building tonight. The man is a deranged lunatic, and if any of you should happen to come upon him, I urge you to exit the area swiftly and call the police.

Irina lowers the microphone, her expression genuinely troubled, as she pauses to collect her thoughts.

Irina Ivanova: Further, pursuant to the abdication of the World and Hardcore Titles, management is taking several options into consideration. By the end of tonight, the dispensation of both belts will be determined. Thank you, and enjoy the rest of your evening.

The audience sits in stunned silence as the General Manager struts back behind the curtain once again. In the ring, Remi and Clearwater exchange glances.

Clearwater: What shocking news, ladies and gentlemen! Our own World Champion… fired?

Remi: Yeah, but bro, I always thought that guy was a little unhinged. And stalking -- that’s no joke!

Clearwater: There have been rumors he was trying to get in touch with an old flame, but if he crossed a line, then the company is right to let him go. You have to wonder what this means for the vacated titles, though!

Remi: Irina promised we’ll find out later tonight! Now, let’s get to those awards!

Alpha Award:

Feud of the Year

Both commentators now stand on the stage, Clearwater beside a simple wooden podium, and Remi just in front of a long table bearing an APW banner and laden with golden trophies.

Clearwater: As I was saying, 2019 has been a remarkable first year for Alpha Pro Wrestling. And nothing makes this business as memorable as a good feud!

Remi: And we’ve had a few! Some started strong, then evaporated into nothing. But others, my dude, left their mark.

Clearwater: Not the least of which was the battle over the Hardcore Title between Big Bad Bodacious and ...Dean Wolf.

Remi: Bodacious earned that title shot alongside Wolf, but Wolf’s ego couldn’t handle the potential of failing to recapture the Hardcore belt in what could have been a glorious three-way match! So Bodacious graciously agreed to hold off a month and let Wolf have a go at Spartan one-on-one -- with the understanding that whichever man came out of that match the champ would answer to him!

Clearwater: And answer, he did! Bodacious was relentless in his pursuit, but in the end, it was Wolf who came out on top.

Remi: But -- who can forget the two months that Odin Balfore terrorized head of Alpha Security, Jason Zurra? First by hospitalizing Zurra’s brother, and then nearly crippling Zurra himself!

Clearwater: Those were wild and lawless days here in Alpha Pro. Speaking of, we haven’t seen Balfore in quite some time.

Remi: Don’t! Just mentioning his name might get his attention -- and that’s the last thing we want!

Clearwater: Well, either way, he’s not here tonight. We have one last feud that really encapsulates what this business is all about, a feud that dominated every aspect of Alpha Pro and led to some of the greatest matches of all time!

Remi: And that is tonight’s winner for Feud of the Year -- Dean Wolf versus Smith Jones!

The crowd erupts with applause as the AlphaTron displays a “Feud of the Year” graphic, then plays out scenes of increasing brutality between the two competitors. As the video package fades away, it is replaced by familiar music.

The opening guitar riff from Linkin Park's ‘Waiting For The End’ plays, followed by that haunting double piano note as all of the lights in the arena blast to full white. The lights start to slowly fade to darkness as every spotlight in the joint floods the entranceway with bright white light. Smith Jones comes out onto the stage dressed in a charcoal-grey sport coat and slacks, with a white dress shirt, unbuttoned at the neck. Jones stops at the top of the ramp and looks out across the crowd as many of them chant "I'm right here! I'm right here! I'm right here!"

Smiling, Jones shakes hands with each of the commentators, then accepts his trophy from Remi and steps to the podium.

Smitty: It’s not hard to have Feud of the Year when you truly hate the person you’re feuding with. Loathe. I spent so many words trying to tell the wrestling world that I am not the villain. Wolf was good at making the crowd see him in a different light than many of us saw him backstage. We can now all more clearly see what I was saying all along: Wolf… is an animal. I had very little trouble coming up with the passionate emotion that I poured into my pursuit of victory over him. This Feud of the Year Award represents, to me, my dedication to Alpha Pro. I will stop at nothing to ensure that this company is always the sort of place where pro wrestling lives. Thank you.

Applause thunders through the arena as Smith Jones walks offstage once more.

Alpha Award:

Junior Heavyweight Champion of the Year

Remi: That man is a real class act, bro.

Clearwater: He certainly is, Remi. We’ve got so many more awards to get through tonight, and chances are, we’ll be seeing him again!

Remi: No doubt! But next we’ll be honoring the first of our champions! Now, the Junior Heavyweight may not seem like much of a title. Most people see it as a stepping stone, but some competitors have founded entire careers on it!

Clearwater: It gets defended most often and changes hands more than the others. You could argue that these facts alone make Junior Heavyweight one of the most prestigious belts. Any man or woman who can hold it more than a few weeks is certainly worthy of respect and recognition.

Remi: There’s a lot of be said for being Alpha Pro’s Junior Heavyweight Champion of the Year, when you consider the level of competition we have in this organization! But with so many to choose from, how can you decide?

Clearwater: That’s why we let the fans vote! They make the ultimate decision! And look at all the superstars they had to choose from!

Remi: Longtime wrestling veteran Jaice Wilds, for one!

Clearwater: Rockstar turned pro-wrestler, Lucy Sixx, the original Junior Heavyweight Champion!

Remi: That stone fox-spirit Tsukiko, who held it longer than anybody else with a combined reign of 53 days!

Clearwater: Or Alex Scott, our current reigning Junior Heavyweight Champ!

Remi: But one champ stands above the rest, and that man is our very own Super-Sexy Boogeyman Slayer -- STEVEN OSBOURNE!!!!

“Fever for the Flava” begins to play as Steven Osbourne and his managers Veronica Anderson and Amber Del Vallee come out to accept his award. All three are dressed to the nines which in the ladies case means evening gowns. Veronica's looking classy Amber's looking slutty. Steven on the other hand is wearing a tacky pink outfit that makes him look like a poorly dressed pimp. He struts to the podium, laying hands on his trophy.

Osbourne: I promised myself that if I won an award I was going to make sure everybody remembered this segment. So as your junior heavyweight of the year.. I wanted to pick someone out of the audience and have a live sex celebration!

The crowd gives a surprisingly loud cheer. Amber pouts muttering I would have done that. Veronica looks annoyed.

Anderson: And I told you that that would get you arrested.

Osbourne: I didn't care about that.

Anderson: So then I told you you might have another live sex celebration in your prison cell later.

Osbourne: Yeah.. I cared about that. So I needed a new celebration plan. Then it hit me! I am twice the junior heavyweight of anyone else on the roster this year! So that's how I'm going to celebrate! I'm gonna prove it with a special junior heavyweight handicap match!

Steven strips off the suit revealing his ring gear and strutting towards the ring with his ladies in tow. All of the sudden... Jesus Christ is My ******* hits. Two men come out dressed in church garb. A small, younger man, and a massive man obviously over the junior heavyweight limit. Danielle leads them out.. mic in hand.

Danielle: Steven.. pride is a sin! Your pride is going to be your destruction tonight! The Church of the Unknown Saint is finally going to get it's revenge! Introducing.. representing the Church of the Unknown Saint.. the one true faith... from Heaven! First weighing in at 205 pounds Alter Boy Johnny! And his partner.. weighing in at 200 pounds.. Deacon James Dean!

Osbourne: Hold on.. hold on! No way James Dean is under the junior heavyweight limit.. I demand a weigh in!

Two referees dutifully carry out an official weigh in scale. Danielle just smiles.

Danielle: We are not worried! The Lord will provide for us and ensure the Deacon is under the weight limit.

Alter Boy Johnny steps on the scale first... weighing in at exactly 205. Deacon James Dean smiles.. as Steven grabs the scale swinging it like an ax dropping first the Alter Boy.. then the Deacon.

Osbourne: Hey.. you're right! He is under the junior heavyweight limit. My mistake ring the bell.

The bell sounds as Steven climbs to the top rope.. connecting with a missile dropkick on Johnny! He returns to the top rope.. only to have Danielle shake the ropes crotching Steven on the top rope! The Deacon helps up Johnny and the two climb to the top rope... double superplex on Osbourne! They dog pile cover him!

Barely got the shoulder up!

Alter Boy holds Steven from behind as the James Dean hits the ropes... connecting with a big boot on his own partner as Steven moved out of the way! Steven then dropkicks the big man to the knee then clips it! He turns and superkicks Johnny as he tried to make the save. Then with a shit eating grin Steven hooks in.. a sharpshooter.

Osbourne: Hey.. Deacon.. God thinks your theme song sucks and he wants you to give up.

The Deacon's face contorts in pain.. Amber climbs onto the ring apron celebrating wildly and prematurely. Unfortunately for Osbourne this causes the referee to get distracted. This allows Danielle to slide into the ring.. and mace Steven Osbourne who falls to the mat clutching his eyes. Veronica Anderson meanwhile enters the ring spearing Danielle to the mat. She rolls from the ring as Anderson follows.

Anderson: I just want you to know.. I'm only helping Steven because losing this match would hurt his box office draw.

Veronica tosses Danielle head first into the ring post making her a non factor. Alter Boy Johnny and Deacon James Dean didn't press their advantage as they were too busy watching the girl fight. Meanwhile Steven pops to his feet eliminating the competition on Alter Boy Johnny who lets out a string of decidedly non Christian curses after the boot to the junk.

Osbourne: What? I've been maced so many times I'm immune to it! But are you?

Steven headbutts the Deacon then rubs his face against Dean's eyes. The Deacon howls in pain as Steven grabs him by the robes and tosses him over the top rope. He turns around noticing the still doubled over in pain Alter Boy and executes the praying mantis bomb aka.. the Missionary Position! He hooks a leg completely unnecessarily.

Steven picks up the mic and announces his own win!

Osbourne: Your winner of the match.. the greatest junior heavyweight in APW history.. the sexiest man in APW history.. the Super Sexy Boogeyman Slayer.. Steven Osbourne!

Steven pushes Johnny from the ring with his foot before holding up the ropes for his ladies to enter.

Osbourne: Hopefully that ends that with the Church of the weird sex robot. I'm ready to move onto bigger things. One award is pretty good. But what can I say. I'm a gold digger! I want em all! So next week I want that world title! I want wrestler of the year! I want that sex celebration! In short.. I want it all!

I want it all by Queen begins to play as the trio exits to massive cheers.

Match of the Year

Clearwater: Two down, so many more to go!

Remi: I’m HYPED, bro!

Clearwater: That’s because you smashed two Red Bulls on the way here, and I saw you sneak another during that last commercial.

Remi: Nah, it’s because this is exciting! And this might be one of my favorite categories -- Match of the Year! Honestly, I don’t even know how management narrowed it down, because every single match in APW has been a match of the year contender!

Clearwater: Can’t argue with that, Remi! That’s why these fine folks tune in week after week -- you never know what’s going to happen on Monday Night Metal!

Remi: And that goes double for our pay-per-views!

Clearwater: There were so many huge competitions this year, it was almost impossible to list them all, but we tried!

Remi: Right? Like Arthur Pleasant versus Dean Wolf at HorrorKore -- that was some sick action!

Clearwater: Or Big Bad Bodacious and Dean Wolf at Supremacy. Those Hardcore Title matches are, indeed, singularly spectacular!

Remi: What about Braxton Locus versus Smith Jones? Or the match that kicked off the rivalry between Jones and Wolf?

Clearwater: Or, for that matter, the Alpha Showdown match? Arguably one of the greatest spectacles in the combat sports industry, a direct homage to WCF’s own original Showdown!

Remi: That was AMAZEBALLS, bro! Easily as good as Spartan and Wolf fighting it out for that Hardcore strap at Ascension!

Clearwater: Those were, indeed, spectacular competitions… yet not one holds a candle to the ultimate battle between Wolf and Jones for the World Title at Omega! And so, APW’s Match of the Year goes to Smith Jones for that amazing display of heart and integrity in the face of overwhelming adversity!

Smith Jones steps up to the lectern and grabs hold of the trophy with a grin. He looks out across the crowd and flashes a smile before forcing himself to get much more serious. With a stern sneer, he speaks.

Smitty: Every match counts. That’s the way I have approached this game from day one. There is no time at which it is acceptable to act like the match before you is anything less than the most important thing in your entire career. Every time I lace a boot, my intent is to leave everything I’ve got out there on the canvas. So, when it came time for me to face off against Wolf in a matchup that I simply had to win, I did everything within my power to survive Hell in a Cell STILL your Alpha World Champion. That did not happen. I lost. I feel no shame about that. I climbed inside that cage and performed at the top of my game. I was bested by another at Omega, but I went out there and gave The World a Match of the Year performance. I cannot adequately express my pride. Thank you.

Once again, the crowd erupts with cheers as Smith Jones raises the trophy and walks offstage.

Remi: So much more to come, after these brief words from our sponsors!

Hardcore Champ of the Year

Clearwater: Can I just say, again, how much I respect our former World Champ?

Remi: Right? I mean, I’m sure we’d all be just as happy if management gave him that belt back.

Clearwater: Yeah, but then again, Smith Jones is a competitor and I feel like he’d rather earn it back than have it simply handed to him.

Remi: Speaking of earned -- no title is earned at a higher cost than the Hardcore Championship. These fights can take years off, or even end, a career!

Clearwater: True! It’s such a challenging lifestyle that only two men in APW history have held this title, and until recently choosing between them would have been all but impossible.

Remi: Thankfully -- or unfortunately -- Dean Wolf made the choice easy. He’s a scumbag, and he failed to represent this company at even a lower standard.

Clearwater: And so, we’d like to welcome at this time, Alpha Pro Wrestling’s Hardcore Champion of the year -- SPARTAN!!!!

The arena blacks out and the opening guitar riffs of “Destroyer” by Parkway Drive begins to echo over the ambient noise of the excited crowd, as the drum beats kick into effect the the lights flash with each beat. As the Winston McCall screams “Destroyer”, the lights in the arena flash back on with full effect.

We speak in lies, we speak in tongues
We’ll see our damage done
We live in dreams, we rest in peace
Content to sleep in our chains
Seven trumpets sound their discourse, nine circles of our devise
Messages writ within our columns of fire
No life blooms from the ashes of ire

Spartan walks out onto the ramp. He is dressed in casual attire, black shorts, black singlet, backwards cap, black kicks. He stands on the stage and embraces the noise of the crowd before he starts making his way down the ramp to the ring.

But our hearts beat faster, and our heads hang low
Still we kneel for the masters
Filthy pigs all in a row

Black the sun

Spartan reaches the ring and jumps onto the apron in a single vault.

Spartan springboards himself over the top rope and into the middle of the ring. He is handed a microphone by a random stagehand as his music fades away and the crowd noise takes over. Spartan raises the microphone to his mouth.

Spartan:Yeh, I've got new music.

Spartan waits for the crowd noise to die down.

Spartan: It is an honour to be named Hardcore Champion of the year. I can’t deny it. The battles I feel that I laid out there week in week out whether I wore the belt or not. I put it all on the line for everyone of you fans who came to see the greatest action in all of the wrestling landscape, here at Alpha Pro Wrestling. We are the pinnacle of this sport., without peer and to be named as the year’s greatest Hardcore champion - I am humbled.

Spartan drops the mic from his mouth for a few moments and seems to gather his thoughts.

Spartan: But the new year is going to have to start without me as an active competitor. See, the old year did end great - I lost focus, I allowed personal distractions to stop me being the best I could be ring. Yeh, it’s an excuse, but I need to focus on those personal things - and then I will return stronger than ever and then Spartan will roar!

Spartan drops the mic again, this time to compose himself slightly.

Spartan: Some of you may know that I have been dealing with a complicated divorce from a woman who lives halfway around the world and refuses to allow me to see my children. I must fix this. So I have found a way to access the necessary resources that I need to get my children back, but my ex-wife she won’t make it easy. So until such time that I win or lose that fight - I will not be a full time active in-ring competitor for Alpha Pro Wrestling. But, rest assured, with resources that have been given to me - I will get my children back and I will be back in the ring and god-willing I will be standing in front of you as 2020’s wrestler of the year. But for now, I will be the Hardcore Champion of 2019. Thankyou.

Spartan drops the mic in the middle of the ring and makes his way out of the ring by dropping to the mat and walking up the ramp and the sounds of “Destroyer” by Parkway Drive echoes throughout the building. He pauses only long enough to accept his trophy from the commentary team, before slipping back through the curtain to the applause of the crowd.

General Manager’s Announcement #2

“Sgori (Burn)” by Stvore hits the speakers again and GM Irina Ivanova steps onto the stage, this time to a mixed reaction from the crowd, heavier now on cheers than boos. By now, they’ve all seen a number of viral videos that involve Dean Wolf slandering the company on camera, and otherwise generally making an ass of himself in public. Suddenly, they see Irina in a different light altogether. As she moves from behind the curtain, she is followed by two security personnel, each carrying a title belt -- the Hardcore and World Titles, specifically. The crowd quiets as she raises a microphone to crimson lips.

Irina Ivanova: Thank you, comrades, for joining us on this momentous occasion. Not only have we been able to celebrate the finest talents in all of wrestling, but tonight I have a special announcement regarding these two recently vacated titles. First, it is my pleasure to inform you all that the Hardcore Championship will be contested in another Big Brawl, like the first time. This will be an event open to anyone who wants to join in, not limited to the Alpha Pro roster alone. Any wrestler from any promotion may join. Or, for that matter, managers, valets, trainers… even fans! It is an absolute free-for-all. And it will take place the second week of the new year, at a venue yet to be determined!

At her gesture, the Hardcore belt is lifted up high to a pop from the fans.

Irina Ivanova: Now, second, and most important, the announcement you’ve all been waiting for. As we all know, Smith Jones has been perhaps the greatest wrestler to represent this company as World Heavyweight Champion -- and he still has his rematch for the World Title coming to him. As such, Comrade Jones is now officially the Number One Contender. But… a title match takes two. So management has come to a collective decision that we will begin our 2020 season with a Royal Rumble main event! Not only will every Alpha Pro superstar be involved, but select wrestlers from the world over will be invited to join us for an opportunity to face Smith Jones for the APW World Championship!

She signals again, and the World Title is lifted high, to an even bigger pop at this news!

Irina Ivanova: So two big events to look forward to as we begin our new year, plus our January pay-per-view -- 2020 Ways To Die! Every match will showcase the most brutal concept matches the profession has to offer, and by the end of the night, we will have crowned our new World Champion! Good night, happy holidays, and enjoy the rest of the show!

North American Champion of the Year

Clearwater: What a stunning announcement! Another open Big Brawl for the Hardcore Title! And our first-ever royal rumble to determine the next person to face Smith Jones!

Remi: This night’s been full of surprises, Mikey-bro, and we’re not done yet!

Clearwater: Not by a longshot, Remi, my friend! Every title has a special significance, and the North American Championship is no exception!

Remi: The North American Champ represents the entire continent -- the US, Canada, Mexico, and Central America -- and nobody does it better than these fine athletes!

Clearwater: And before that, Spartan carried the title with honor and heart!

Remi: That he absolutely did, my dude. As noble and noteworthy as these competitors have been, though, not one of them has managed to keep that strap around their waist for as long as our North American Champion of the Year -- ROAD DAWG!

Clearwater: Unfortunately, Road Dawg couldn’t join us for the celebration tonight, so we’ll have to send him our best wishes and move on.

Alpha Award:

World Champion of the Year

Remi: Now for the category I’m most stoked about! As the most prestigious belt in our whole lineup, the APW World Heavyweight Championship is the most highly sought-after, with the stiffest competition -- and has changed hands the least. Only three men have held this title, and one barely counts, since he couldn’t manage to act like a champion.

Clearwater: Yes, but Dean Wolf aside, perhaps the most memorable reign was that of Masuda Jubei. Not the longest, but eventful, with the founding of Masuda Corp; taking Allen Anderson under his wing; weekly antics that left the fans in awe -- and his unexpected, tragic passing.

Remi: But for all of that, nobody made a bigger or more lasting impact than our very own SMITH JONES! APW’s World Champion of the Year!!

Smith Jones steps onto the stage with a hint of hesitation. He takes it slow, soaking in the surreal euphoria of the moment. He is officially World Champion of the Year. He doesn't touch the trophy at all. He leans against the lectern with both hands and stares down at the trophy. He sighs a long, deep sigh.

Smitty: Thank you very much. This award means so very much to me. I am a nine-time champion, but only two of those have been World Championships. This is no word of a lie when I say that winning the Alpha Pro Wrestling World Heavyweight Championship was the greatest accomplishment of my entire career! For sixty-three days, I got to carry around the grandest prize in all of APW knowing that I had worked my ass off to win it. I earned it in earnest. I clawed my way there and everyone watched… including my gorgeous girlfriend, Siobhan McLeod. I could never have been as strong a man as I was without the true love and support of Siobhan. Sweetheart, thank you for putting up with my weird hours and my intense mood swings. Becoming a World Champion is not an easy thing. Staying champion is even harder. Your head hits the pillow a little heavy each night knowing that there is a long line of potential contenders constantly forming outside your door. I am so very proud, dear fanbase, to stand here before you as the very first APW World Champion of the Year! This goes straight to my trophy hall as soon as we get back to Toronto.

Finally, Smith grabs hold of the trophy tightly with both hands and walks off stage with a spring in his step.

Standout Moment of the Year

Clearwater: Welcome back Alpha faithful! We have had so many pivotal moments in the last six months alone, it would be a Herculean task to list them all.

Remi: Management combed through every show looking for the ones that made an impact above all the rest and narrowed it down to seven. Who can forget that shocking moment when Masuda Jubei extended his hand to Allen Anderson -- and brought him into the fold of Masuda Corp?

Clearwater: Who knows where Anderson could be now, if Jubei had never met with his unfortunate accident? Those two could be on top of the world right now!

Remi: Or what about the time the Coked-Up Madman himself confronted Smith Jones? That was intense! Smitty went absolutely insane and brought the fight right to ZMAC! Is this a rivalry that could rekindle in the coming year?

Clearwater: No doubt about it, Remi. Sooner or later, McMorris is going to set his sights on that big belt, and if Smith Jones is holding it then, may the wrestling gods help us all!

Remi: ZMAC was the man who created the entire HorrorKore movement, after all, and the inspiration for our Halloween pay-per-view of the same name! The event was so insane the entire show was up for “Moment of the Year”!

Clearwater: And it’s no surprise! Things just got better and bloodier as the night went on! But what about the night Zion Simmons swaggered down to the ring to announce he’d just bought out not only the entire Masuda Corporation, but also the contracts of the Tag Team Champions, Canadian Coalition -- effectively putting an end to tag team competition in APW as a whole!

Remi: Surely Miss Ivanova has a plan to counter that!

Clearwater: Or was she in on it? I can hardly imagine her letting somebody like Simmons get away with that if it wasn’t in her own interest, as well!

Remi: Either way, Irina Ivanova stunned us all the night she seized control of APW management a week after co-owner Damien Kaine walked out!

Clearwater: The lady gets results, though, and you can’t argue with that! But above and beyond all of these events, TWO moments stood out most! The tragic death of World Champion Masuda Jubei…

Remi: And the biggest, boldest, brutalest match ever conceived -- the inaugural Hardcore Title Big Brawl in Atlantic City!

Clearwater: I think it wouldn’t be too far to say that the Big Brawl really captured the competitive, dominant spirit of Alpha Pro Wrestling in a way that no other match could.

Remi: I agree completely! And now… for our final award and the one we’ve all been waiting for...

Wrestler of the Year

Clearwater: Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is indeed that time! Now, I personally think that every man and woman who puts their body and safety on the line in that ring week in and week out deserves this award, but like they said in the Highlander -- There can be only one!

Remi: Dude! How OLD are you? That movie’s like, ancient.

Clearwater: But it’s a classic, Remi. One of the greatest films ever made, and with the entire soundtrack by Queen. So hush.

Remi: ANYWAY… like you said, there were so many deserving of consideration, but we had to choose among men like Zombie McMorris, the current reigning North American Champ; Masuda Jubei, the previous World Champ; Steven Osbourne, a two-time Junior Heavyweight Champ and former North American Champ; Spartan, former Hardcore and North American Champ…

Clearwater: ...Smith Jones, or Dean Wolf. And while the fans chose Wolf, that was before his true nature came to light; before he was fired, summarily stripped of his titles, and disqualified from eligibility for any of these awards. Which, under the circumstances, and as more details come to light, I am in total agreement with.

Remi: That said, we’re glad to announce that APW’s Wrestler of the Year for 2019 is none other than -- SMITH JONES!

Smith Jones steps up to the lectern and is immediately entranced by the elegant engraving of his name on the trophy. His half smile dissolves into a subdued grimace.

Smitty: This is a difficult award to receive. Honestly, it’s…

He trails off and stares at the trophy for a long moment.

Smitty: ...um.. This trophy is the one I wanted most. It was originally voted to Wolf. I am only standing here because he chose to walk out on this company right before it starts to grow into the monster it is destined to be. I can’t deny that even though this trophy is mine, I…

Jones takes pulls his keys out of his pocket and begins to scratch the nameplate. The microphone picks up the sound and the whole room cringes, covering their ears and gnashing their teeth. When he is satisfied, he holds the trophy high above his head for all to see his name scratched off the nameplate. He slams the trophy down on the lectern.

Smitty: I’ll win Wrestler of the Year twenty twenty. Watch me.

He storms off stage, leaving the trophy behind at first, but then coming back to shamefully lug it offstage.

Final Words…

As the awards show returns from the last commercial break of the night, the stage has been cleared. Irina Ivanova, still clad in her festive outfit, stands in the ring, flanked by Mike Clearwater and Jonah St. Remington. An orchestral version of “Ace of Spades” filters softly through the speakers.

Irina Ivanova: Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank each and every one of you --

Without warning, her mic cuts out, and the music is replaced by Metallica’s “Of Wolf and Man”. Irina’s eyes dart toward the stage, but it remains empty. Clearwater and Remi step protectively in front of their boss, but she pushes them aside. A “fan” in a hoodie jumps the crowd barrier and vaults onto the ring apron, slipping through the ropes. His hood falls back as he steps forward to confront the General Manager -- to reveal the face of none other than Dean Wolf himself. The crowd goes wild with boos as he looms over Irina, who simply stares up at him, unblinking. Wolf lifts a mic of his own to his snarling lips.

Wolf: From day one, you have made my life in this company a living hell. You think I don’t know what you’ve done? You think I don’t know you’ve been plotting behind my back? And then -- THEN -- you have the audacity to FIRE ME?! To strip me of MY TITLES?! To disqualify me from your dumb awards? You little bi--

“With Oden on Our Side” blasts through the speakers to a wild pop from the fans! Wide-eyed, Wolf jerks his head around, looking for the inevitable threat. He doesn’t appear on the stage. He doesn’t walk down the ramp. Odin Balfore simply seems to materialize right there in the ring, catching Wolf a solid shot to the jaw that puts him on the canvas. Balfore reaches down to grasp Wolf by the shirt and hauls him to his feet, lifting him up so that the two are eye-to-eye.

The entire audience waits in hushed anticipation.

Odin cocks back his fist, as if ready to strike again.

But instead, he snaps his fingers, and Dean Wolf vanishes from sight.

Remi: Did he just… Thanos that guy?

Odin points toward the AlphaTron. All eyes are drawn to it as static flares across the screen, then slowly resolves into an image: A barren, windswept landscape of snow and ice, ringed by mountains in the far distance, all bathed in the deep blue light of perpetual dusk. The camera shudders as something thunders against the ground. Then again, and again, in a steady rhythm, like footsteps. A bewildered Dean Wolf looks around in every direction, pulling the hoodie as tight as he can against the howling wind. All at once, he looks up… and up… and up, his expression transfixed with awe. A single, fur-trimmed boot stomps down in front of him, nearly as tall as the man himself -- and the scene abruptly cuts out. Balfore picks up Wolf’s discarded mic.

Odin Balfore: Merry Christmas, ya filthy animal.

And without another word, leaves the ring, hops the barrier, and disappears into the crowd. Stunned silence follows for several moments before the audience erupts in cheers! Irina waits for the excitement to die down before addressing them again.

Irina Ivanova: The All-Father, ladies and gentlemen! Now, as I was saying -- I want to thank each and every fan out there for making 2019 the best beginning it could possibly be. But it is only the beginning, and 2020 is already shaping up to be even better! Before we call it a night, Alpha Pro Wrestling would also like to thank our fine commentary team here, Mike Clearwater and Jonah St. Remington; our ring announcer, Miss Jessica Kaine; our entire team of officials…

Her hand sweeps the stage, and a spotlight shines down on the whole crew of striped-shirts -- Eddie Silk, “Spanky” O’Shaughnessey, Jasmine Silk, and a few junior refs in training.

Irina Ivanova: ...as well as our excellent trainers and backstage crew; our interview team, Dani Applegate, Troy Butler, and newest member Mr. Harvey Berlin; and our management, Commissioner Jason Zurra and Owner Adam Dante. In addition, we would like to recognize our production associates, without whom these grand shows would be impossible. Thank you, everyone, for your hard work this year!

“Ace of Spades” hits the speakers as the show fades out to the Alpha logo against a black screen.
